Do you lend out money? What are your rules?

To co-workers, family, friends etc?

Big or small? $1, $5, $10, $20.

I don't need to be popular with poor/ needy people, so I do not lend money out at all.

As you get older, you realize more and more just how stupid most people are.

I don't expect it back

lately i've just been thinking payment should just be a case of beer or something. A lot of people will be more inclined to drop 30 on a case of beer, than give you the 30 you lent them

Don’t know how old you are but your life smart . I’ve rarely got a penny back from the closest of friends .
Just consider the fact that your basically throwing money away when you supposedly lend it out

This is the best way. Barter works for those who are in need of cash.

I don't think I've ever "lended" someone money. I give people money if they need it, with no expectations of getting it back, nor wanting it back.

I don't lend anything. People say they'll pay you back but somehow always forget.

Honestly it's a test to see what type of person they are. Loan em 20-40 and see what they do. If the 'forget' they don't respect you.

The bank machine wouldn’t work in the Bar one evening, so a decided to ask a guy I knew from seeing him from other times I was out drinking for 20 bucks .
He lent it to me no problem, and I went to his house a week later to pay him back , and funny enough he had no recollection of lending me anything .
I always pay my debts though , it’s just the way I roll

I do lend and that's what I do, just test with smaller amounts. I've had coworkers ask for $100 or so and just seemed off to me. I wish I could be as nonchalant and giving as some others in here.

I don't let friends borrow anymore (not that they really ask anyway), but I've realized that when I let someone borrow money and I see them spending (on anything), it makes me annoyed. Like why the fuk are you shopping when you haven't paid me back?

I rather provide help/give money that I can afford than to chase down people to get my money back.

Well when I say give money to people who need it, I mean people I know or trust.

If a random coworker came up to me who I don't know besides at work and asks for $100, I'm not giving him chit lol

But if a good friend is on some hard times or I know a buddy doesn't have a lot of money and we're out to eat or go do something, I pay for them no questions asked.

Best friend once joked with me when he called late at night and asked if he could borrow 2k because he needs to pay off a guy. Said he got into some stupid chit. I said okay without even thinking about it. He was joking though.

If I have the money and someone I know really needs it I have no problem. Money doesn't mean chit to me. I just have to care about it because life is based around it.

The only money I lend goes to investments for which I expect the best return. I only give money to friends, never more than 150 or so.

Not anymore!

Been burned too many times. Never loan money, always assume it's a gift and if you can't afford to gift it, you can't afford to loan it.

If I'm out with friends or co workers and someone needs a spot for a drink or food, I just pay for it and specifically ask they don't pay me back. Just saying something like "you get it next time". They never do, but I'm committed to the idea of not getting paid back and that makes it easier.

Anything under $50 I don't really care about if it's not a regular occurrence.

I've loaned friends and family money (it's usually the same handful of people asking) and it's ruined relationships.

A family member promising and insisting they'll pay me back and the second I loan the money they ghost me because they can't pay me back and are too ashamed so they just ignore me and it ruins the relationship.

Helping other family by loaning large sums to them (thousands) to help make life easier by paying something off just for them to spend it on other stuff taking 2 years to pay me back instead of the agreed upon 3 months (even though they had the money at the 3 month mark). Then I seem like the d1ck for having to keep asking for it.

Loaning money to a close family member because they come to you (again) asking for help to pay important bills to stay afloat and promising to pay you back. Then you find out they're at the bar 3x a week, buying cartons of cigarettes, and buying drugs... but still haven't paid you back.

Notice all my more recent examples are family. I learned a long time ago to never lend money to friends and don't keep company with the kind of people that would need to ask a friend for money. But I stupidly thought family was different and have been burned several times.

Now there's people in my family I can no longer tolerate or respect because of it.

Never loan money. Gift it if you can afford it. Better yet, tell anyone that asks you don't have it or have a personal policy against it.

Money has a really good way of showing people's true colors and who is really a scum bag.

I have been burned a couple of times. Now when people want to borrow money, im happy to do it if they really need it, but I take collateral that I can liquidate for more than they owe if they never come back for payment. I never have to hound them for payment, and they are usually pretty timely when it comes to getting their stuff back lol.

I don't hang around with the kind of people that need to borrow money.

If was just $20 to help someone I know out of a jam I would give it to them and not ask for it back, but if they didn't return it I'd consider them a dick.

I wouldn't lend any more than $50 or so unless I knew them well and trusted them.

I play poker and hang around on poker forums, apparently casino degenerates hit people up for loans which is hilarious to me. I'd laugh if some spud at the casino asked me for a loan, like yeah, I don't often lend money but when I do, I make sure it's to a gambler.
