Misc Jobless Degree poll

Hi misc,

If you were an uninformed, spoiled kid who had everything handed to you, you most likely would make the choice of choosing a terrible college degree if provided no input from your parents or role models.

I know people who were pushing their kids to be doctors and lawyers and crap but their kids are getting Fs and Ds in high school, so it may not be realistic for them to even pursue that career if those grades continue into college.

So what would you pick if given the choice? All you know is that business is a good degree, but you've heard:


Accounting: "has a lot of math" or "taxes are boring"

Finance: "has a lot of math" or "I don't want to work at Geico"

I would choose to get better at math and do a degree which requires intelligence and has a decent payout

Don't have a degree but am doing fine crew
Somehow still managing to avoid getting 'too big'

Both industries are way past their hey days and will be subject to regulations that will finally close all them loopholes that were only recently "discovered". And lets throw in automation and you have very little salary growth trajectory in general for both industries.

I would probably pick accounting though as almost every CV I receive has a Finance major or two in their education credentials section.

That hasn't been my experience when I was job searching. Any job you could get with an Econ degree you could get with a finance or accounting degree but the reserve wasn't true. When it comes to business degrees its a little counter intuitive but the more specific the wider range of jobs you can get. I have a Finance degree for reference but probably would've been better off with an accounting degree

In California, K-12 makes a huge point that you don't want to be a loser working with your hands. Kids are brainwashed from youth to only go to college. Trades are heavily looked down upon here. Which I think is BS since they are better choices for most people.

"Business" and "Political Science". Have yet to see anyone in these fields make it, and we graduated 3 years ago. One guy was doing Poli Sci and then dropped out. Another one did Business, regretted it, is now going back for another degree in Poli Sci, and then plans to go to the military after. One guy in Poli Sci is going to law school though, but will surely come out with 6 figures of debt by the end of his education.

Everyone I know with a joke business degree got their degree pre 2000s. Back in the day when job qualifications were non-existent.

I remember talking to HR and they said their 1st job was a paid maybe $40K as HR assistant and they were promoted to manager soon after (1 year) when their supervisor left. So basically their 1st job was HR manager. This same place is only hiring unpaid interns for HR.

But I got a tattoo in 98. I'm a horrible person. Like I give a chit. Atleast I'm aware of my situation, im a manlet and have a tattoo.
