COVID-19 cases by race and ethnicity (not race bait) (srs)
Now let’s try to take our blinders off and look at this bit of information rationally.
I am not a liberal. I’m not an SJW. So don’t even bother. This is just information that is informative.
If you’re black, you are almost 3x more likely to get it, 5x times as likely to be hospitalized, and almost twice as likely to die from it.
So that kind of takes Sweden out of the equation for me now. If Sweden where a more diverse country, they would likely have far a greater rates of infection.

If you were 5x times more likely to be hospitalized from the virus then you currently are, maybe your attitude would change a little bit.

One factor that was brought up was how many of the UK Pakistani population has multi generations living in one household which is why many in the elder Pakistani community are more at risk due to the children of the household mixing at school and possibly bringing the virus back home
Not sure if genetics are a factor for them being more at risk or possibly even lifestyle choices, Pakistani people Don’t have the most nutritious cuisine and rely heavily on oil, add in the fact the heart disease And obesity numbers are high for them too

Sweden has a lower obesity rate, less stress and they generally look healthier than Americans. They probably have a lower incidence of diabetes, stroke etc.

Vitamin D level.
Darker skinned people are often extremely deficient if they live in the north.
Having enough Vitamin D in your system is extremely important in how your body reacts to the virus.
Many ethnics also avoid the sun like the plague. That makes it even worse.
Has nothing to do with race.

Severity is strongly related to vitamin D & obesity. Several studies have already shown that anywhere from 80-97% of ICU patients are deficient in vit d. And yes whites already have high levels of vitamin D & are also less obese than blacks & hispanics, hence them handling it better.

I've noticed this too OP. All of the majority black counties in my state whether they be urban or rural (yes we have majority black counties that areveryrural] have both higher rates of infection and deaths as a % of infected people.

In the current climate, if you or an agency told a specific race (especially black since Floyd) to mask up and abide by rules and let others loosen up, even based on data, you'd be castrated.

lol at this cherry picking bs. Aside from vitamin D deficiencies by skin colour, were there any recent current events that could have caused a surge in virus spread among African Americans? Hmmm no nope definitely not, must be genetics. Yup thats gotta be it, theres no other plausible explanation.

Those are cute numbers but I want to see the percentage breakdown of race and who has it. ie. 1000 white people, what percent of them has it, blah, blah.
Not surprised by any of this. I have seen certain groups having massive parties, ignoring social distancing, etc...
And whose fault is that? THEIR OWN. Take some responsibility for your behavior and the consequences of that behavior.

It's definitely a combination of things and I don't think them being genetically more susceptible to the virus is one of them.
Lifestyle
Ignoring social distancing advice
Vitamin D (suppose you could argue this is a genetic thing)
4 solid months of rioting/protesting
A lot of minorities have jobs that they can't do from home
What can you do? It is what it is.

I think I read an article somewhere that certain races of people are genetically more susceptible to the virus, not sure how true it is though.
However there are many ways you can explain it, from socio-economic status, demographics, behaviours etc. A lot of minorities live in and cluster in cities. So do white people but you are going to find mostly white people in places like North and South Dakota, Montana and other remote areas and states that don't have major issues with COVID. So the incidence rate is going to be brought down due to many living in rural areas.
Also an interesting article here
https://minorityhealth.hhs.gov/omh/b...lvl=4&lvlid=25
African-Americans are more likely to be obese by a factor of 1.3x, also 20% less likely to exercise. We all know that a lack of exercise and obesity are health factors. I wonder if having sickle cell trait can have anything to do with it, although people with SCT generally don't have any problems. But sickle cell anemia is fairly prevalent in African-Americans relatively speaking. Native population are also obese af and many hispanics are as well.
Obesity seems to me like a plausible explanation because Asian people on average are less obese than average and their rates are drastically lower than other minorities by a lot. Also tend to be better of financially. I'm assuming they also lump in Indian, South-east asians, etc but I'd imagine Chinese people make up most of that. I feel like as well asian people are more likely to comply with mask wearing as culturally they don't see it as abnormal and are people that generally follow the law and recommendations a bit more. Still can't really explain why they would be slightly higher than the non-hispanic whites. My guess would be that a lot of white people live in places where Covid is not an issue.
You have to be careful to make any definitive conclusions and imply that correlation implies causation (i.e: because of your race you are more likely to succumb to corona).

To counter that arguement, several car accidents and suicides have been attributed to c19.
How do we know these people werent gunshot victims?
Would a lower class family in the hood, where diabetes and other diseases caused by lifestyle choices are rampant, fight or question a "c19" cause of death?

I haven’t looked at this specifically in regards to covid but the answer to these discrepancies is usually poverty (sometimes genetics).
Poor people social distance less, live in higher density. They have worse initial health and seek healthcare less often. Anecdotally, we see poorer people come in later/sicker. Less education contributes to all of the above.
You can break this all down and attribute it to “systemic racism” if you want but I haven’t seen the evidence to directly draw this lines (surveys showing “x ethnicity doesn’t trust healthcare” or “x race more likely to be discharged without prescription pain control” doesn’t convince me of racism. Too many confounders).
In regards to the vitamin D comments. Maybe you guys are correct but it’s usually not that simple. We just went through this with sepsis, showing vitamin C deficiencies and excepting Paul mariks treatment to change things but the intervention (giving vitamin C) never panned out.

Ethnic groups outside of SK, Japan, Vietnam etc have different diets to those from Africa and Indian sub-continent. Foods which are heavy in salts and other chit push your blood pressure and risk of diabetes up by several factors.
Black Americans have a lot of fried foods, refined carb and heavy sugary foods which are ground zero for diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure. Fried food is favoured by them.
If you have high BP, at risk of diabetes and are overweight then you are at a higher risk.

on the news a month ago, i heard that Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto said that 30% of all the positive cases in TO are from the Black community even tho they make up only 10% of the population.
Also, the NW part of Toronto is a hotspot right now. with 5-10% of people positive. 1/10, that's a lot. and a large part of that area is Black.
can't find the sources online but i found this article:
https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/black...tudy-1.5737452
Race-based data shows that Black Canadians are far more likely to get sick and be hospitalized for COVID-19 than other ethnic groups
data shows that across North America, Black communities are disproportionately affected by the pandemic, according to data from cities like Toronto and Ottawa, and Edmonton
"Data in Ontario are pretty clear, you know — two to four times higher rates of, variously, infection, intensive care unit hospitalization and death among diverse neighbourhoods,"
the article gives a list of possible reasons why (front-line workers, multigenerational large family homes, don't care to get tested, take public transit, tend to socialize in large gatherings)....but these apply even more to other groups like indopak people or filipinas and other asians. altho there are less morbidly obese )in the colloquial sens of the word) indians than black, there way more clinically and actually obese. so even that argument doesn't hold.
i think genetically black people are hit harder by the virus.
