Health insurance is an absolute scam if you're under 65

The only health care that is actually good is like Medicare for old *******s that covers like almost all of your bill..

Young people have to pay like $700 / month for top tier coverage and even than you'll be paying thousands out of your own pocket before it even kicks in...

Get diagnosed with cancer as a young adult and tell me health insurance is a scam.

My options were
A. Get better insurance
Or
B. Die bc nobody will treat an uninsured patient.

I havent had health insurance in 20 years. It basically paid for my house. Three things to consider;

1. You might get sick and die WITH health insurance. Ive seen that happen to several people. Having insurance is no guarantee of anything.

2. You might not get sick enough to ever require treatment that you cant pay for out of pocket. My grandmother lived to 103, never spent a day in the hospital, and never took any long term medications. In that case you will literally spend over a million dollars on something you never needed.

3. The ODDS are that you are going to spend more on premium than you'll ever get back in payouts...thats how the insurance companies stay in business. They have professional actuaries calculating the odds....and they always win.

Same.

£200 of my monthly tax goes towards the NHS. £200. A young medically fit and physically fit 27 year old, and I am forced to pay £200 a month. My knee was injured for 18 months before I saw a consultant who couldn't diagnose.

But yeh, its free for gloria who ****s herself everyday in a nursing home so we can prolong her life for 2 more years.

Free my ****ing ass.

OP, change your thread title to "As long as you are healthy and never have an accident." I never needed insurance until i ruptured my l5/s1 in 2012 and that pretty much started my need for it. I got sedentary after that which kick started my need for blood pressure meds. Once you get on something like beta blockers, its SUPER hard to get off. But its mostly my fault for lame chit like feeling sorry for myself and whatnot

But lets say youa re driving to work and someone hits you and you have to go to the hospital and need a surgery. Then yeah. You NEED insurance. One MAJOR drawback from american healthcare is that you get bills from SO MANY different providers. The hospital where the surgery is performed, the doctor who did it, the anesthesiologist, probably one from the people who run the equipment, one from the imagining department if you need that done etc. Just fukking combine that chit already.....I have read/heard that you can ask for a (somethign similar to...I cant remember the actual name of this) "quality of care review" and an itemized bill were they list everything you were charged for and will knock off all the nickel and dime chit (where they charge you $500 for a bag of saline). No idea if its legit or not

It truly is. One of my friends grandma paid all her life, private insurance the best to offer. I remember visiting her and her room was dogsh*t. Apparently she waited as well 4 hours before they even took a look at her or told her what she's meant to be doing. Horrific food, I mean some sausage rolls from the service station is better quality.

They will slime their way and do ANYTHING to loophole your coverage when it's time to pay up. You still end up paying crazy costs because of taxes and base prices being so high. You have a system clogged with deadbeats, leecher and people who are healthy nearly all their life and paying insurance get shafted.

This is in a first world country too, god forbid anyone has no coverage in a sh*thole. It's basically just laying to die in a dingy shack.

It's no joke that the best advice is to never get seriously ill. If you can live most of your life expectancy and die in a freak accident or in your sleep, you won the lottery.

Got my managers basic health insurance instead of raises last year.

They pay about 250 and I have to cover about 250 each a month.

My kitchen manager broke his leg and ankle skateboarding to work a few weeks ago.

He just sent me a text thanking me, the hospital would have charged him 30k and he would of had to sell his house, if it wasn’t for the insurance.

damn man....Insuance companies have fukked over the health care industry. the only thing keeping it afloat is the lack of government-run capitalism fueling the major medical advances. There is a reason why non-american born celebrities and wealthy canadians come to america to have their healthcare taken care of. They get the best and dont have to wait

edit: but lamo @ libs thinking theansweris to make the rich pay for it all. That's just gonna make the insurance companies even richer

Younger, healthy people subsidize the costs for older people who use the chit out of it

Especially if you have run of the mill insurance through your employer. I pay 155/month for insurance and I've used it once in the 2 years I've been with this company.....had to get some blood work done.......$200 for the visit, $790 for the bloodwork b/c I hadn't met my deductible (of $3500) yet. Complete chit

And people who have pre-existing conditions want to be covered.....fuk off.....so my premiums can go up to pay for you?

Yes this all makes mathematical sense but insurance is just that, its coverage in the case of emergency yes? Spend 10 days in the ICU in your 40's uncovered and you will be claiming bankruptcy or shelling out ungodly amounts of money.

I have no clue how insurance pricing works but I wonder what it would cost to insure you as you get older privately. Unless you have 8 figures in assets....id advise you get some insurance

If you make a good living, you are crazy to not at least have catastrophic coverage. If you are young, single, healthy, then catastrophic is probably fine. If you roll with nothing, you are really rolling the dice, an accident could financially ruin you.

no healthcare crew

paying for it in your 20s/30s is a waste of $ if you're a healthy person. got sick? go to the local pharmacy & handle it like a man lol

the % chances of you becoming deathly ill or getting seriously injured are extremely low. play the numbers

I feel the same way about car insurance personally. It's called being a good driver and not f*cking up. Same as being responsible enough to care for your own health.

The people with their sh*t together get f*cked over because of the idiots of the world. It's always been that way. You're only as strong as the weakest link, ya know. It sucks but at lest I'm not the weak link.
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

Yes as you said celebrities and the uber wealthy can fly to the US and get top notch treatment. That's what you get if you're a part of the 0.001%

IF you're a pleb like you, me and everyone in here you get to pay a retarded amount in insurance and what not only to get shafted by a corrupt and overpriced industry

It's a shame that in the worlds most "prosper" country people have to worry about something like that

brb better hand out thousands of dollars a year just to have coverage "just in case" something ever happens. But no, paying a fraction of that in taxes to get 100% universal protection is bad because of muh communism. I mean even in phucking CUBA they manage to have universal healthcare and their life expectancy is the same or better thant the US. They don't have fancy hospitals with uber high tech they just have lots of doctors taking care of people and making sure preventive problems don't grow out of control. But no in the US the healthcare industry NEEDS to charge billions just so people like Soros can get their 8th hearth transplant done by a robot... lMAO.

I believe with Medicare, the plan only covers 80% of costs. The other 20% is pain by the patient or insurance. I guess it can be a bit more complicated than that, but that's the basics from what I've been told by those that are covered by Medicare.

Medicare Pays 80%, What About the Rest?

Medicare provides a large amount of coverage for senior citizens, but it does not cover all of the needs. Generally, Medicare pays 80% of your doctor and/or hospital bills which leaves the rest up to the insured. Many people decide to purchase Medigap Insurance (Medicare Supplement) to fill in the gaps left by Medicare. Medigap Insurance Policies are sold by private insurance companies. The coverage ranges depending on the plan chosen.
