fellowship legit felt dark, like some unrelenting evil force was pursuing them throughout

the other 2 were great in their own respects, but felt more like a spectacle for outrageous over the top action sequences to occur

I'll have to re-watch them because it's been years since I watched them. But I really liked the buildings and castles in The Return of the King. The battle at Minas Tirith was pretty epic.
