Fight the Power
Fuk you Pritzker
As many of you have probably heard, the governor has now issued an executive order closing all restaurants in Lake County for indoor dining as of Midnight Friday evening. I had a conference call with all of our Libertyville restaurants this afternoon and the after consulting with our trustees we have decided that we are not going to be taking any enforcement action against the restaurants that stay open.
I know the COVID virus is dangerous and I am as concerned as many of you that we protect people's health. However, there have been no issues of Libertyville restaurants causing spreading of COVID. We have had a couple instances where someone has tested positive for COVID that works at a restaurant and in each case the restaurant has closed for cleaning and taken all precautionary actions to protect customers. According to Senator McConchie the Lake County Health Department has told him that they have not seen a connection between the current restaurant rules and an increase in COVID.
The governor's order is self-serving since he allows customers to go into restaurants with gambling machines and gamble since the state gets 30% of the gambling money.
I know that many people do not feel comfortable going into restaurants and doing indoor dining and I respect that position. However, I believe the restaurants are being made scapegoats on this issue do not want to stand by and see us lose our local businesses.
I would again like to ask all of our residents to "Adopt a Restaurant" and do takeout at at least one restaurant per week to ensure that we have a viable business community at this time next year.
Terry Weppler - Mayor of Libertyville
