Aware me on meditation and its benefits

Any brahs meditate here?

Every time I Google it or watch a video the description is so vague. Just sit somewhere and "be" just chill and do nothing. Like what the fukk is that supposed to mean? How do you get any benifit from this? Most people sit down and don't do anything most of the time and they don't benifit from it. I must be obviously misinterpreting this description.

Can someone describe how you meditate and what benifits if any it has brought to your life?

Is it worth it?

Cheers.

I sit down against a wall in a dark room, close my eyes, focus on my breath and just listen to the guided mediation instructor.

You focus on your breath, let thoughts come and go, and just "feel" your body.

Benefits:

-Overall calmer and able to handle the ups and downs of the day with a bit more level-headedness

Always seemed like bs to me. People searching for some type of “spirituality” seem to be the largest adherents to meditation.

Get adequate enough of sleep, and your mind will have plenty of time to rest.

It almost perfectly combats all addictive neuroses. I spent a while independently wealthy, and I investigated peak experience.
It is not drugs, gambling or any of those things. Mindfulness, not any of the other weird exercises people do, describes peak experience.

You do not need any specific technique. You just need to focus on something alive and external to yourself for an extended period of time.

It does not make principles of taking care of your household not important. It does show evidence of producing the fluid intelligence of a mid-20s (near the peak levels of one's life) for as long as you maintain the exercises. You can practice this almost every moment, besides some conflicts. If I could optimize any feature of health, I would choose this state of fluidity over testosterone, looks, energy, or anything else.

I personally use a technique called Dzogchen, which essentially treats all perception with the mindful attention. Many people find breathing meditation easier to start. For breathing meditation, you simply observe the breath, not following any thoughts elsewhere or predicting, attaching to, or trying to control the breath, for at least 15 minutes, probably more like 30-40 for breathing meditation. Afterwards, you will see benefits of not feeling driven by perceptions, so you can perform better and with conscientiousness against any oversights.

Stress and unmindful compulsions do not add anything to work.

You will feel better from some material outcomes, regardless. Making more money, better insurance, social support, will make you much happier than less stability. I'd just try a guided meditation app a few times if you find the exercises difficult.

i think the west has their own interpretation on it; like a lot of westerners THINK they're meditating, but they're not.

the dali lama said that if you live in the west you shouldn't meditate

the lama's statement makes sense to me. cause you realize the epitome or APEX of buddhism and a lot of eastern philosophies have to deal with with not attaching to ANYTHING?

their monks and chit renounce their worldly possessions, sit inside doing nothing and staring at walls all day. they call it a "vanishing narrative"

MEANWHILE look at the west. the west is all consumption, build the narrative, acquire, acquire, acquire, etc.

MAYBE some elements of certain eastern philosophies are more conducive than others (mindfulness seems like it's a small portion of a whole), but overall taking a step back and analyzing them from the outside they seem POLAR opposites

honestly objectively look at what each society has accomplished..

After my Indian odyssey and my return to worldly life in 1979, I’ve found being back in the world not such a bad thing after all.I no longer regard the world as a place from which to escape or detach myself. My mind is no longer something to conquer or to cleanse of impurities. In fact, my life is immeasurably richer without meditation, as wasthat of India’s great poet Rabindranath Tagore, exemplified in his poem “Against Meditative Knowledge

The benefits are dissolving your ego as in identity and sense of self which then causes you to live the rest of your life in depersonalization/ derealization and never being able to have a normal relationship with reality let alone be able to relate to another person and have a normal relationship with them. Have fun.

Yeah I started meditating. I have meditated 1 hr a day for the last 15 months non stop and haven't missed a day.

I have really had a lot of benefits and my only regret is I didn't start doing this when I was in my early 20s.

The key things you need to succeed is discipline, consistency and a real firm resolve. The way I make myself succeed on these things is I make it a life or death resolve to start with and then it eventually becomes a habit. So now's it natural to meditate daily. But I went hardcore for a while. l would just gym, yoga, meditate, work hard, build discipline, wake up every day at 5am etc. I think a lot of these changes came because I was calmer and more focused. I ended up also quiting alcohol this year as well. But I have quit alcohol for 6 months at a time before but with this meditation routine I have now I am noticing enormous changes.

Major benefits for me include:

- one pointedness (focus improved heaps), can think of just one thing. E.g. when it's the weekend I forget completely about work even though my job is intense and busy. Or when at work I forget about everything outside of work. When I gym I just think about training. This means you become highly efficient.

- I watch (am aware) of certain thoughts and emotions now which means I don't need to act on them so I have control. Say a subtle negative thought enters your mind but you are not aware of it, through meditation you become aware and you can stop it early before it grows into a more intense emotion (people go through their days experiencing a multitude of emotions a lot of which are negative and begin from a subtle negative thought resulting in a reaction)

- increased awareness (described above)
- I feel good a lot of days
- sad depressed anxious days start to disappear
- you randomly started feeling happy for no reason
- you feel a lot of the time content
- increased patience
- emotionally controlled around intense situations
- can handle way more stress and pain
- compulsions start to reduce (e.g. hungry, horny, thirsty, angry) all reduce so you aren't just thinking about sleeping, eating and having sex all the time which is a waste of life
- mentally and emotionally you become stronger
- as bruce lee said you begin to understand what it means to empty your mind
- sometimes I experience deep peace, calmness or Euphoria while I meditate. It's like you are on ******. It started for me after about 6 months.
- Thought diarrohea disappears. I'm not having one thought after the other coming up endlessly.

I spoke to some monks who gave me tips and I just maintained the discipline.

For me it just helps to get in control of your mind because people's minds work against them throughout their whole life.

Peace brah

Legit nothing special.
Sit down, close your eyes, and count with each breath up to ten. Over and over again.

You do actually get a great feeling when you open your eyes after 20-30 minutes though. Hard to describe.

Still waste of time.
