what makes McDonalds fries so good?

even places like 5 Guys or restaurants that use natural, fresh cut fries to me they still dont taste as good as mcdonald fries they are hands down my fav fries. what is it that makes them so tasty? do they add sugar and the type of oil they use? do they add a fried egg into the fries when making them to give them more rich flavor?

It's the type of oil they use.

Say what you will about their food, the fries fresh, salted, hot and crispy out of the oil are GOAT.

A local magazine was doing "Best in the city!" awards for different restaurants, and trying to point people to like indie coffee bars and hole in the wall taco places... for "Best French Fries", they gave #2 place to McDonald's. Lol'd my ass off. They're just too good to be denied.

An uncle of mine works in a startup that supplies quality control equipment for some rural food suppliers. According to him, McDonald's is as anal about the French fries they buy as they are lax with beef. I think their calculation is that the cost margin between AAA and chitty potatoes isn't really that big, whereas there is more money to be saved in a Kobe beef cow vs a dreg who can barely stand (60% of their patties are literally soy anyway).

But yeah. They get their first choice of fries off the assembly line, and they have the tightest specs for golden color among the customers, plus length, squishieness, blemishes... I think their rejects are bought by fukkin Wendy's.

Also with McDonald's: their agreement with Coke required them to amp up their soft drink game. Coke syrup is required to be kept in a steel drum beneath the machine instead of a plastic bag for flavor, the water has to be filtered to a certain standard, they need to switch the drum more regularly before it goes stale... the end result is that it tastes like Coke but better.

Always get a double cheeseburger, fries and a Coke when I go to Micky D's. The cheeseburger tastes like space food, but the fries and Coke are a straight-up fine dining experience.
