Is winner-take-all absolutely retarded?

Can someone explain to me how a winner-takes-all electoral college is fair in any regards? Idc what side you vote for, but it seems pretty dumb to me.
Would rather see % popular votes lead to % electoral votes or something similar.

That way a state with 20 electoral votes doesn't decide a whole election just because one person won the state by 5,000 votes.

Because the Senate and HOR are split among the states. Makes perfect sense. Executive branch doesn't have as much power as it seems.

You can't explain it as fair. It was a compromise from back in the day to keep rural states from getting railroaded by urbanized states. It basically disenfranchises voters depending on where you live and obviously favors conservatives given the last two Republican presidents didn't win the popular vote. It needs trashed along with the two party system.

Reread the post fuker. I didn't say replace electoral college with popular vote. I said give popular vote within states a % of electoral votes, rather than states being winner-takes-all. That is not the same as a country-wide popular vote.

its the Unites STATES of America.

Its about the States and not just the people. The electoral college gives States more say in who is president vs just citizens votes.

That would be extremely similar to a popular vote...If a state has 10 votes, and it's 50-50 they each get 5...it's just popular vote but you're rounding the numbers in each state and calling it something else.

it still doesn't address that 1 electoral vote from California represents more people than 1 vote from Nebraska.

Some states have a compact that whomever won the states popular vote, gets their electoral votes as well

Yes, it would be more similar to a popular vote, but still not the same. You don't have to give states electoral votes proportionate to only their population.
