Accidentally gave a scammer last 4 digits of social security

I got a call this morning while half asleep from the “social security administration.” I gave them the last 4 digits of my number before I realized it was a scam. Am I fuked?

Not necessarily. Probably a good idea to check haveibeenpwned.com and change all your passwords. #1 cause of getting buttphucked by "hackers" is reusing weak passwords. Call your bank and report what happened so that there is a paper trail of you proactively responding to this incident because it will make reporting any potential fraud in the future a hell of a lot easier. srs.

Last 4 of your ss is typically public knowledge. Dont stress too much but check in with your credit and bank weekly.

Don't be a bish to OP brah, phishing and spearphishing is sophisticated enough in 2020 that you can get hit with a 100% legit sounding call from "your bank" which prompts you to perform a completely logical entry of some basic ID info.

I bought merch from a copy-cat website which phished my data and I am an ITcel who literally works in InfoSec. Mistakes happen you homosexual *******.

Not ashamed at all brah, followed a link from social and made a purchase during a sale. Realized my mistake instantly, made the right calls, and lost $0 over it. Still got the knock-off merch shipped to me even.

yea. i got an email to one of the emails i use most about an aol account. it told me that someone logged into my account from a different ip. it gave ip address and all this chit. i didn't question whether it was legit at all at that point

it took me to a window to put my login in and i just barely recognized that they asked a question that aol never does. i cant remember what the word was.. but i was like.. aol doesn't make me do that

so i didn't sign in and just checked the stuff that was linked to that email and nothing ever happened, so i assume it was scam

I'd have said. "You're the one calling me, why don't you confirm the last four digits of my social security."




If your being called by a business that's legitimate/that you do business with. Such as the social security office. The dealership for your vehicle (In reference to the expiring "Warranty" Etc. They'll have your full name, phone number, address and at least the last four of your social on file.


Scammers won't even know your name much less the rest of the info 99% of the time.
