Is this normal for a leather chair?

I bought this thing a year back for $4.5k and noticed that the leather bunches up on one side. I tried laying it flat to smooth it out but then realized there's an excess of leather and also that it refuses to lay flat, keeps bunching up on the side. Is this considered a defect? The store I bought it from tells me it's normal.

I'd say it's normal for a chair that's a normal price.

The leather looks like high quality stuff. The bunching up is probably mostly from the foam (or whatever innards) breaking down a bit and maybe not ideal design? And some relaxation of the leather itself

Long story short, the leather looks good and is just broken in now

Yea, it's a high quality chair.



That's from the website, note how the leather lays flat.

It's not an issue in terms of comfort, but that bunching up bothers me considering what I paid.
Why not just work less and spend $150 on a chair? No chair on earth is worth $4,500 unless its made from gold.
It's extremely comfortable, worth it to me.

Leather will lay flat when first installed but it'll relax over time and as the foam underneath breaks down

The dealer didn't give you any info about this eh? For a chair at that level, they should have given you insight about how the leather would age and how to care for it

I wouldn't expect it to alleviate the bunching but definitely should condition a chair like that and it wouldn't be a big task. I have a sectional made with top grain leather and it's a pain to condition
