True Detective season 2 worth watching? srs

ive heard mixed things. Already seen season 1 of course and its GOAT contender, love Rust as a character no homo. Felt like i was watching a more cynical and depressed version of myself talking
"The flowers bloom, then wither... The stars shine and one day become extinct. This earth, the sun, the galaxies and even the big universe, someday will be destroyed. Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."

2 is awful, one of the most convoluted messes of a season i've ever seen, along with bizarre casting choices for mcadams and vaughn. 3 is decent, not close to the first season though

I liked 2. I would rank 1 > 2 > 3 (controversial, i know). 3 is by no means bad

I watched the first couple of episodes years ago, and I had no fukking idea what was happening. I've been wanting to restart it lately.

EDIT: talking about Season 2, Season 1 is one of the GOATs.

First few eps will leave you confused. Stick with it and you'll start to "get it"

I watched season 2 years ago, and was bored out of my mind. By the season finale, you don't even care who killed that old guy from episode 1.

And somehow Colin Farrell and his ex-wife, produced a ginger kid?

Whole thing was a boring mess.

Like every single conversation that every character was having 24/7 was an attempt at philosophy.

Vince Vaughn as a gangster?

Talking about season 2 here? Sorry, you won't get it, nor will you care to.

Problem was, season 1 was a huge hit, and HBO wanted a season 2 ASAP. It was rushed.

This is the only scene worth watching in all of Season 2, very srs.

Colin Farrell telling a 12yo "You ever bully or hurt anybody again, I'll come back and buttfuk your father with your mom's headless corpse on this goddamn lawn."

Wouldn't call it a major SPOILER, but you find out that Colin Farrell is actually the biological father.

How two Burnettes produce a ginger? You got me......

No. It's chit, and in such a self-serious way that it's not even entertaining. Season 3 is decent, though of course it doesn't compare to the first.

Its worth a watch but nowhere near as good as S1.

S1 was just too successful. So S2 tried to live up to that success and failed. The biggest mistake apart from the writing was the casting. They went for star power McAdams/Farreell/Vaughn. Which was a bad choice. Too good looking and polished and 'city' to play rugged, dark cops. They looked like models the whole time lol. Rust/Marty although big stars really have the Southern cop vibe down to a T

Season two was made as soon as HBO saw what a huge hit S1 had become... and S1 was still relatively new/just being watched by many within 6-12 months of S2 release so it was very fresh in the minds of people... That’s imo why S2 is looked at as “horrible” and “bad”, instead of the more proper “decent”.

I would say if S2 was a stand-alone season it wouldn’t be worth the time, but since it’s part of the True Detective series you kinda have to watch it (even if it’s not co-related to other seasons.).

S1 is amazing.
S3 is very good.
S2 is decent.

S3 is underrated imo.

Season 2 is a ****ing mess narratively speaking, that even in having re-watched it a couple times, I still cannot fully decipher the **** plot. Combine that with the three main characters being 1 note miserable suck bags I recommend not watching season 2.

Season 2 is nothing like the first. It's grimy as hell in a different way. Think of Christina Aguilera in Dirty back in the early 2000's and that's the kind of grime it has. Vince Vaughn does a good job at being serious and the whole season feels hopeless.

It's s good show, but it could be called anything else since it's so different than the first season.

Also watch season 3 after. It's much better than two, but not as good as the first.
