Could you live off 2 million?

If you were given 2 million right now but werent allowed to invest it in anything (except for a house for living in), or work a job/make passive income, would you be able to live a good life? What would your plan be?

strange question...

so if you're not allowed to 'invest' in anything, but you buy a living in house (it'll appreciate in value, it IS an investment), you can keep the money in a high interest rate saving account (this is still an investment)...


but yeah sure I can live off half of that

So essentially if you had $2m could you buy a place to live in and fund your life with the remainder? A good life is about more than just being able to survive. Not working in any way and LDARing isn't going to result in a fun life even if you did not have to worry about your living expenses.

But to answer the question, yes $2m would probably cover a decent house and living expenses if living a LDAR lifestyle but it wouldn't be a "good life".

Let’s say no income and I live until I’m 70 that would be a burn rate or “yearly salary” of 50k.

Doable but not lavish and I would probably add some additional life expectancy to be safe.

Probably more like assume I live until I’m 100.
So that’s 28k a year which is not very comfortable

I wouldn’t feel comfortable living on the principal until it was over 5 mil.

Obviously a lower cost of living area would be the best option so you could stretch it.

To maintain my lifestyle I would just keep working for 10-15 more years, add to it, and then go from there.

Then again if I had two mil theres no way I’m not letting it make me money in investments
