Great ballplayer. Lousy human bean.

He bet on baseball. Moreover, he bet on his own team when he was player/manager. It's literally the #1 rule you can't break. He broke it. Any suspicion that baseball games are in any way fixed would be the death of the league. That's why his punishment is total banishment. Some day when he's dead and gone, TPTB might decide it's time to forgive him and elect him on an old timer's ballot, but Rose won't be around to enjoy it and that absolutely kills Pete Rose. Which is part of his punishment, TBH.
