How far did you get and when did you know you wouldn't make pro athlete?

Inspired by goat chiefillini.

As title says, what level did you hit and when did you know the tour was over?

In the UK pro sports is not married to education, our pro teams have academies from as young as U11.

I was a superstar 10/fly half for my areas pro club from 13-15(given I can't remove location on here, you can find out who I am if you try hard enough), but I didn't start puberty till late, came in at 16 for the new season at 5'2(I joined the misc due to this, an effort to get bigger). My shoulder got knocked 5 inches out of its socket first tackle of the season, and I was called in to say medically it wasn't worth the risk to continue playing, single mom household agreed firmly, the guy playing back up is currently a bench pro.

Thought about trying at 19 when I gained 11" in height but the tour was over for me.

Responses pls?

I spoke to a guy when I was in sales who played non league football. He was paid cash, which equalled £32k/year, but he was only paid during season, and if he got injured, he was entitled to 3 weeks pay and contract termination. Its a tough gig, you've got to quit at some point

When i got fat in elementary school I ended up turning to bowling. My handeye coordination was always on point, and I bowled a 299 at 13(I'm 31), and averaged 210+ at 16-18 when I stopped. I lost weight, and realized that the money in bowling is not worth sacrificing the college experience.

I would occasionally do a league for a half season or so every now and then several years ago, and pretty much average 225+ without even trying on a house shot. I entered a PBA tournament in 2015 I think just for the experience, and didn't do that great, but not the worst there amongst the regional pros.

I may give it another shot later on down the road. I throw the ball/rev it harder than 90% of pros, but the juice just isn't worth the squeeze with it.

This is only relevant if you consider bowling a sport, which I'm on the fence about.

When Kevin Love dunked on me like a father playing nerf basketball with his toddler, I was like "oh."

And then I took a hit so hard from a future NFL safety and I couldn't breathe for at least 5 seconds, I was like "oh no."

And then I lost my spot in my last sport to a 14 year old D1 prospect, I was like "oh no, my tour is over."

Aspirations quickly went from pro athlete VIP to "maybe a small school will still give me a little money. Maybe."

Talking from a rugby standpoint, it was a combination of height plus other things which meant I couldn’t go further than National League 1 in the UK. I worked my arse off, but being 5’8 is a glass ceiling that’s just impossible to work around.

I enjoyed the process and still play the game, but the desire to go higher just isn’t there anymore.
