Bioscience reason not to take too much vitamin C (or antioxidants)

Stumbled across something the other day while reading about the anti ageing breakthrough thread. Vitamin C can knock down oxidation so much in the body that it screws up cell signaling/pathways. Some cells should not prosper and replicate because there is something wrong with their DNA. Oxidation puts these cells through the wringer and the ones that can't handle the oxidation apoptosis (suicide). Mega dosed vitamin C can come in and wipe out all the reactive oxygen species, so cells arent' stressed and ones that shouldn't replicate do (because the cell didn't get stressed, set off some internal signaling that tells the cell it is toast and to discontinue operations).

Here's the studyhttps://www.spandidos-publications.com/ijmm/22/5/651

And here's a more broad article by Adelfo Cerame about how there's an ideal amount of oxidation.

Its tough because you need a fair amount of vitamin C for various things like rebuilding connective tissue, but too much is bad. Most animals make their own vitamin C so they don't have this problem.

- There is an ideal zone for oxidation. Taking too much vitamin c or any oxidant can get you out of this zone.
- Too little oxidation allows messed up cells to continue multiplying.

Did not know about elastin. Looks like it may be related to lung problems which I've recently run into.

Wondering if derma rolling on your scalp helps build elastin? I'm thinking it might be like accupuncture. Somehow stimulates the immune system or something.

brb derma rolling anyway

You only absorb a small portion of vitamin C you take unless it's lipo****l. I wouldn't be too worried about it.

The same goes for a potent antioxidant as curcumin. It's a mistake people make by taking in too many antioxidants, there are many studies that show it possibly has a detrimental effect to health.

Yeah, another study I read some years ago showed those who took antioxidant supplements had increased rates of cancer, like 20% or some chit.

"but antioxidants protects cells". Yeah, but it also likely protects cancer cells just as much

The more research I read the more I decided to go NC on all supplements

I think I do not know of one single person who takes supplements and ends up better off than someone just optimizing the basics like exercise, diet, socializing, avoiding huge problems, etc.
