Misc doctors GTFIH (high blood pressure)
So basically I have a blood pressure of 150/100 at age 25...
Profile:
- Used to be a competitive kickboxer who ocasionally ran marathons, recently focused more on powerlifting and less on cardio
- Blood pressure was around 120/80 2 years ago
- My diet is super clean and has been super clean for the past 5-10 years: eggs, oatmeal, wholegrain, fish, vegetables, fruits, beans, olive oil, never use salt or salted foods ... (registered dietitian crew)
- Parents have never been diagnosed with high blood pressure
- Current training regimen is only 6x1 hour a week (2h powerlifting, 2h running & 2h boxing)
- 165lb - 5'85''- under/ around 11-15% bf
- However I do have mild claudicatio intermittens aka poor blood flow in my legs; always cold feet since a few years; could this possibly be the cause?

1. Do not take medical advice online. Especially not on the misc.
2. You mentioned neither of your parents have a history of high blood pressure, is this also true for your grandparents on both sides?
3. Not heard about claudicatio intermittens to comment on that, but it could be a contributing factor.
edit:
Seems intermittent claudication is associated with a large increase in heart disease and stroke, with hypertension typical.

Can try garlic and vitamin E/Chttps://www.sciencedirect.com/scienc...22X?via%3Dihub
I'm kind of thinking you might be lacking in nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is used not just to relax blood vessels and improve blood flow, but its the main ammunition your immune cells use to kill invaders (iNOS). If you're "behind" on arginine, your body downregulates nitric oxide production as its becoming scarce. And if you're sick, the body will be needing that arginine and other nitric oxide building blocks for immune function, leaving little for everything else like blood flow. Try taking citrulline, AAKG, or some other nitric oxide supplement to help this.
Here's a little bit on it.https://academic.oup.com/ajh/article/13/5/547/103075
They used l-arginine which sucks, its very quickly broken down in the body. There are much better sources, like citrulline or AAKG

I've read a few doctors say that they typically don't know what has caused a patients high blood pressure.
I thought the official dietary guidelines for salt were changed a few years ago. Salt is now considered healthy for most. I guess there is a small percentage of people that have issues with salt but for most it was found that salt isn't as big of a health risk as previously believed. When the change came out I was pleased and began adding more unrefined sea salt to my diet.
I've had good luck keeping my BP levels down with sensible sunbathing a few times a week and taking a nitric oxide raising supplement.

I don't know about sleep apnea, I snore some nights when I lay on my back but def not every night.
Idk about supplements and meds tbh...
I'm going to try and lose 15 lbs & go cardio 6h/ week for a couple of months and re-check...
By the way; is it normal that it really hurts when that machine is wrapped around your bicep?
It felt more painful this time because it was constricting my arm a lot more than what I am used to.
Don't know if that could influence the test; probably not

Cut out all stims and probably supplements, track it ALL very closely. You can do a lot to change blood flow and pressure.
As said breathing can be a factor.
If you are mouth breathing: bad
Sleep apnea: bad
You can control your breathing to change it. For example breathe slowly trough nose and hum to increase nitric oxide.

Butyeko breathing and increasing your control pause time might also help

A BP that was 150/100 once doesnt say chit.
Your BP fluctuates throughout the day, even being in a room with a doctor elevates it while its being measured

my systolic came back relatively high (144) at my latest doc visit because I had my belt super tight and was sitting down.
Lifts:
Squat: 460x1
Bench: 400x1
Deadlift: 575x1
OHP: 250x2
Weight: 180 lbs.

you're on a forum of older men op, everyone here is going to pretend their chit bp is a fluke or irrelevant and try to tell you to ignore it. There's a reason BP meds are the most prescribed drug in the US and it isn't because BP is a meaningless measurement.

Lots of good points in this thread, kinda piggybacking on the genius's before me. But yeah typically to diagnose HTN you are going to have to get 2 bp readings outside of the healthcare center(white coat hypertension is a thing) . You are aware of your circumstance, and the first txment would be life modification, losing weight helps tremendously ( you are thin), the DASH diet a Meditteranean based diet is recommended for those who have a meh diet(you may consider), but your diet is decent. How's your salt intake, do you take pre-workout, are you on any stimulants (preworkout, coffee or heavier hitters...********, *******..no judgment). I know in the fighting circle's stims can help with extra aggression but also cause vasoconstriction which can lead to hypertension over time. Sleep apnea is a big one, has your mom or boyfriend ever claimed you snore; you are not obese so you have that going for you. Has the stress in your life picked up in anyway(kids, new job, etc). Idiopathic hypertension is a thing and people are diagnosed frequently. With your young age, healthy diet, and frequent physical activity, your presentation is worrisome. Have you had a CBC/bloodwork/lipid panel done, what do your triglycerides look like. You mention your family lacks any hx of vascular disease, but with intermittent claudication at 25 my first thought is familal hypertriglyceridemia or familial hypercholesterolemia. Anyways keep us updated.

Pretty poor that your doctor doesn’t know how to work someone up for possible secondary hypertension (hypertension due to an underlying cause - OSA, rental artery stenosis, thyroid, adrenals etc).
The fact you’re young, fit, no fam history of hypertension suggests there may be an underlying cause.
See a 2nd doctor to get it rechecked. Stop stimulants a few days beforehand. If it confirms hypertension you need treatment and certain blood tests. Also your claudication should be looked into
