So as a 90s kid I was obsessed with Saved By The Bell. I watched it every morning while eating my bowl of cereal before school and I literally know episodes by heart. So when I saw they were bringing it back, I was excited but apprehensive. Then a couple days ago the reviews came out which were all very positive which got me pumped. Then I just watched the pilot.

FUK! It's so terrible. Completely ruined by wokeness.

I'd be totally down with a diverse cast and keeping it at that, but holy fuk they just completely shove it down your throat in this. For example: (SPOILERS)

- The premise of the show is state budget cuts make for the closing of an inner city high school requiring all the students to transfer to Bayside High (which is an over-the-top rich white school).
- The main cast is three Bayside students and three inner city students: a latino girl, a black girl, and a black boy.
- The latino girl is a legit hard working student and her entire story line is how the Bayside kids are so privileged and she is so underprivileged
- The black girl was on the football team at her old school and she wants to try out for the football team at Bayside and of course the usual stuff from the coach plays out ("a girl on my football team!?")
- When the football coach sees the black boy in the hallway, the coach desperately tries to get him to try out for the team, which the boy is not interested in. He ends up joining the theater group and sings amazingly at the audition.
- And just to top it off, one of the main Bayside students is a fully transitioned tranny in the show (and played by a real tranny)

Like I totally understand and with reversing gender roles and understand that privilege exists, but the original show from the 90s was just so shallow and barely actually got into actual sociopolitical stuff (the biggest deals were when Jessie got addicted to caffeine pills or when they found a joint on the bathroom floor), which is mostly why I enjoyed it so much. It was just carefree television watching the funny antics of kids at Bayside High. But jesus christ this new shyt is all about stuffing this new age wokeness down our throats. Like even in the original, Lisa was black (and actually the rich and snobby one of the cast), and not once during the entire series did they mention anything about her being black. In fact she was the crush of Screech (white kid) and hooked up with Zack (white boy), and no one made a big deal about it being interracial. I'd be totally down with the larger diverse cast and the premise of the merging of the two schools with light hearted jokes, but the way they make the privilege/underprivilege and the gender reversals all such a big deal just sickened me and totally turned me off from the show. I hope people agree with me and this show gets canceled quickly and they learn their fuking lesson.

The original Saved by the Bell was the perfect balance of a diverse cast while still being likeable without the overbearing wokeness.

For example, they had Jesse who was a feminist archetype but in some ways she's actually likeable. She was also dating a Latino guy, Slater. BTW, "Slater" isn't actually his true surname, it was explained in the show that Slater's father changed their name to avoid discrimination in the military.

They also had Lisa who was a Black girl that wasn't ghetto and was an academic overachiever. Which actually isn't far from the truth because a lot of Black females do quite well academically and have risen up in the corporate world.

Of course you gotta have Chad and Stacy aka Zach Morris and Kelly.

The only thing I noticed was that that show was racist towards Asians and Indians where these two demographics are often depicted in negative stereotypes.
