Would it be worth it to be as rich as someone like Elon Musk?
Or someone who won the lottery?
It's cool to think about what you could do with a $500M payout, but what's the endgame? You buy that house you've always dreamed of, the cars only celebrities could afford, traveled all over the world and have seen everything you ever wanted to. You put something away for retirement age just in case, if you were smart enough to do so.
But what then?
You've done absolutely everything, You no have reason to ever want for something ever again because you have it or can acquire it by opening your wallet. What would be the point of even existing at that point? Save for passing what you have down to your children.

This was what my thread was about opie. What’s the endgame. But srs build up yourself, have as many ideas as you can, and then if you have the resources, you can let those ideas run free
A challenge is great, at the end of the day you’ll have to set one up for yourself. When you’re living on your terms and executing your ideas you’ll be happy.

Start a charity or foundation and spend your time on projects that change peoples lives. Enjoy the money, but then get some fulfilment from achieving things that no-one else can and changing whole towns or just families.
Invest in technologies you like, maybe be involved in a huge breakthrough in medicine or technology and you could be the person to give it out low cost instead of just focusing on profit.

Guy literally just does what he wants and does everything in his power to accomplish it. That’s why he takes massive risks. Most normal people would take the pay pal money and throw it in some non risky bond investments and live a life of luxury collecting interest. Elon isn’t a normal person, dude took the money and bet it all. I mean at one point the guy was travelling to Russia trying to buy used rockets to compete with fuking Boeing.
If money is the goal I don’t think you’ll make it. Money needs to just be a result of doing something you’re passionate about . I doubt elon musk gives a chit about how nice the 4 seasons Miami is or what supermodel he’s fuked. Those things just come with being a legend.

Pretty sure Elon is not even in it for the money. He could have retired off of Paypal and disappeared to an exotic island never to be seen again in the media. He enjoys building companies and seeing his vision come into fruition. The guys sleeps on the floor of his shops

There is a sizeable piece of the happiness puzzle that comes from getting things done your way.
If you got Elon Musk's money doing what you love, you would be happy I would guess and yes it would be worth it because as mentioned above, the man lives and breathes his companies. If you got it as a lottery winner, there would no doubt be a void.

At the end of the day we’re all trying to fill a void.
Most of us can fill it with an average chitty job and average chitty problems.
But someone with a lot more money, can fill that void in a less average, chitty way.

As soon as you have enough money to meet all your basic needs and your luxurious fancies, more money won't make you happier. But the loss of having to worry about money alone is a huge boost of happiness. Plus, people are either driven to do something great or not. This drive doesn't vanish just because you earned enough money in the process.

Bru, people with that much money have a completely different understanding of what being “human” is.
Their perspective on life is far separated from a normal perspective. In his case, and others like him, their perspective on life is far separated from the average wealthy person.
This contributes to a God complex. They are not at fault for it. I don’t mean this in a negative way. It is just the way it is.

But if you’re itt at least you’re hopefully thinking about it, and it doesn’t take much thought to not ruin your life by winning a lottery (srs)
Maybe 0 thought peanutbraincels (so, average) can find out how to do this, but that’s life

Another thing is that once you are gifted that money, you are now then forced to face your non financial issues, which usually get brushed off to the wayside because its so simple to blame your issues on the lack of money. Most people are too stubborn to change/have severe ego issues when it comes to self/constructive criticism.

Now u have an elevated set of circumstances where you can choose to do what you find meaningful. And if you succeed at that, you’ve earned a seat at the big boys table. Srs
Also Cougar. Completely agree with the non financial issues remark. It is very easy to camouflage your real problems under the guise of financial plebacy

But I would wager for myself that if I received a windfall of $50 million, I would resolve all the financial problems I have, freeing me up to do anything in this world. I’m someone who likes solving problems and doing deep work that I’m attached to. I’m sure you have some of those traits or others. Life becomes a playground at that point. You can seek pleasure which most of us have realized is a fking illusion, or you could use some of those traits to do something, anything in this world to make it better, or just to contribute, or to earn respect from yourself or others who cares. But I think a good amt of people would do something. The alternative is suicide.

An individual who has won the lottery is worlds away from an individual like Elon Musk. Musk's first windfall as an entrepreneur/businessman was probably a couple of decades back with a startup or two and then PayPal - his first early windfall would have probably been several millions to tens of millions and then PayPal, so he would have had "time" to get "used" to his newfound riches. Then obviously, later on, share prices rose etc and he's obviously transcended to new roles and new heights and is worlds away from his old self in early startups.
Now, a lottery winner? This is most likely just an average Joe. You say $500m? That's not even going to be the final amount; the winner would most likely have more than $270 sliced off that figure to go towards paying Federal and State withholdings, so that's between $230m and $250m left over - still a great deal, but still. Now, your average Joe, no matter how good or bad they were with finances beforehand, is going to struggle with that on their own - particularly "managing" it. There might be issues with giving some cash to family and/or friends if they wish to do so, but depending on what they were doing beforehand, they could most likely make "most" of their own "dreams" come true. Sure, it's not like being uber uber wealthy, but it's still a great deal. The problems start when the average Joe goes overboard and/or starts to go well beyond their means and/or over share. When they start looking at multiple properties and yachts and not taking into account regular expenses to maintain these assets; then, depending on their age, what they intend to do for the rest of their lives (taking into account that they're not some individual with ambitions beyond the average Joe). Some folks may decide to do some wild things, but then realize that they're not knowledgeable enough or have the necessary skills and/or team and may decide to go and outsource. Hm, I feel like launching a space hotel, but how do I go about doing that? How much would I need? Would $20m be enough? $50m? Then they'd need to be wary about scams and lies etc etc
I could go on, but you get the drift. It depends on the person and some folks could simply "donate" the majority to "charities" or "funds" or something and be happy with a few million to live off but it really does depend on the individual...
But yes, a lottery winner is worlds away from multibillionaires who have most likely had years or decades to "grow" into their wealth gradually.
P.S. None of us knows what happens as fortunes begin to gradually surge to the billions and tens of billions and more. For all we know, a secret shady organization could bundle us into some black SUVs in the middle of night one night and force us to join "The Brotherhood" lol and then we'd be forced to "not have too much fun" or have our wealth fiercely "controlled" by "The Force" hahahahahahahahahahahaha or when you get really wealthy, the Global Communist Union kidnaps you and feeds you the red pill lol I'm just kidding obviously, but we don't know cos none of us are uber uber wealthy...

Look at the many people that win the lottery or get an inheritance that lose it all including their minds.
$50M could resolve financial problems people have in the short term for sure. But thoes that got themselves into financial problems in the first place (assuming it wasnt some one off sheer bad luck thing) could probably work on financial acumen before falling into large sums of money.
If you werent spending time doing work your were passionate before, money wont suddenly make you do it.
Honestly between having little money to know having a relatively decent amount, the only difference is that the passion work that I do can be reached by more people and i can take it further.

So things like that for someone who is financially competent.
And on a purely capacity standpoint, someone who is still grinding to be secure financially, will spend a lot of their time talking to Kelly their sr manager about the report that’s due Monday rather than being free to actually pursue what’s on their mind.
So yes, I think it takes financial competence and an actual true desire for capacity regardless of what the desired result from that capacity is.
If you have those two things, you’re not in the same boat as the average person who would squander it, or do nothing with their life.
Agree with you on “average” (probably even below average) people though.

Yes. I have plenty of family that is in tough situations and could use the money. You must have everything already set in life and know no one who is struggling if this is a serious question.

You put something away for retirement age just in case, if you were smart enough to do so.
But what then?
You've done absolutely everything, You no have reason to ever want for something ever again because you have it or can acquire it by opening your wallet. What would be the point of even existing at that point? Save for passing what you have down to your children.
