Unbridled "Wokeness" Breaking The West
Two recent videos about how wokeness is stifling the open discussion of new ideas.
In the first Bret and Heather have a conversation around the fact that they can't discuss certain topics on their podcast without risking being demonetized and losing their income:
It is particularly noxious because there isn't a clearly defined bright line provided to content makers around what is and isn't allowed. The platform operates from an algorithm which designates the accepted or most popular version of truth as being the correct one. This system operates in a black and white way which doesn't allow space for heterodoxy.
The second video is from Rebel Wisdom (lots of good content IMO) a podcast focused on the breakdown in sense making that we are struggling with. A big part of that is what seems to be a fairly recent inability for the general population to agree on the same set of facts; not the interpretation of what the facts mean, what the actual facts are.
The topic is a recent study which labeled all anti-woke content providers as far right. Or, IOW, if you are not supportive of post-modern Marxist identity politics and such then you are classified as far right. A couple of well known examples would be Joe Rogan or Jordan Peterson, neither of whom identify as far right or even conservative and self-identify as classic or moderate liberals.
How is this breaking the West?
By shutting down, shutting out, and even demonizing heterodox thinkers who are usually the outliers and oddballs that come up with new ideas and new ways to solve problems.
The freedom to question the established dogma and an openness to the new and different are the qualities that have differentiated the West in recent decades. And now the institutions that are meant to nurture and develop our thinkers and creators are instead actively suffocating anything that strays from this cancerous meme of correctness which insists that no one should be offended, everyone should have equal success, and the facts be damned.

I've thought about that some, not so much on the content creators side but more around creative professionals and artists, both of whom used to fetishize transgression, which occasionally allows somebody from a working class background to break through; now they fetishize psychological safety and correct etiquette, so only somebody with a training in their norms can succeed. Wokeness provides an easy means of validation for lazy and mediocre intellects, so it's no surprise it's come to dominate these spaces.
And also, WTF at Marxist identity politics. I asked the other day how these two ideas became synonymous and compatible and crickets. I'm still confused by that.

What Peterson argues, fairly adeptly, is that postmodernist style thinkers shifted the narrative from class warfare, into race and gender warfare, etc. This thing is at least two-way. Leftist types who subscribe to left-wing identity politics tend to be Marxists. And Marxists tend to be into identity-politics (class identity and otherwise). That’s why it’s two way.
As Peterson points out, the original Marxist ideas surrounding class warfare were superseded by the fact that capitalism was working (better than the alternatives). Continuing a story about class warfare was a little bit fruitless/pointless.
So the postmodernist types, who were/are sympathetic to Marxism, wanted to the keep the Marxist game going, applying Marxist ideas to everything. So the same story of warfare between different identity groups persists and it parallels the class warfare story of original Marxism.

Roughly that the dominant white male is the oppressor and everyone else is some kind of victim being kept down by the man.
Marx stated that history advances due to the struggle of the oppressed classes to emerge from their bondage by the superior classes. This is what set the advances of history in motion, from the beginnings of civilization up until his time. To Marx, however, history would get to its end (or its apotheosis, like a river that flows into the eternity of open sea) when the definitive class, the proletariat, overcomes the dominant class, viz. bourgeoise.
This means that all the difficulties that the disposed and marginalized of society endure have to do primarily because they their move in the wrong circle of society—that is, because their identity is not that of the oppressor. To stop this painful cycle of bondage, tyranny, and evilness from happening, the proletariat class must bring the revolution into effect.
Peterson wrote about it. Here is a clip of Eric Weinsten on how the Democrats have substituted identity politics for actually helping the working class:This means that all the difficulties that the disposed and marginalized of society endure have to do primarily because they their move in the wrong circle of society—that is, because their identity is not that of the oppressor. This causes the goalposts to creep to the left as everyone tries to one up the current 'peak woke' status.
