Just upgraded from a chitty twin bed to a kingsize. Feels guud brahs.
Had an amazing deal on amazon where the kingsize bed frame was only $240 and the $260 mattress ended up being free (Amazon let me keep it since they shipped it without a box and i complained)

Anyways now i'm in need for new bed accessories.
So a few questions.

Do you guys recommend a fitted bed sheet to go around the mattress with elastic corners, or just a large flat sheet that tucks under the mattress itself?

What's up with people raving about egyptian sheets and what not. 800 thread count etc etc.
I've only owned the cheapest cotton sheets from a generic store, so i'm clueless about it. I read the higher the thread count, the better quality or the softer it is.
Should i go for cotton? Silk? Any recommendations?

As for the comforter, any recommendations on that? Some are $50, others are $200.
They look similar so i don't know what i should get. I'll probably need a comforter cover as well to prevent it from getting dirty.

Final question: How do you guys pick out your pillows? Do you get 2 pillows side by side? Isn't that annoying when you roll over and you're stuck between the gap of said 2 pillows?
Or do you buy long pillows specifically designed for large beds?

Cotton. Silk is really slippery and becomes annoying

Comforters not really needed. If it was me, I would just get a cheap one

2 pillows side by side. Get memory foam, very comfortable

Fitted and high thread count if you can afford it. You will notice the difference. Id get a middle of the line comforter.

Most sheet sets will come with a fitted sheet and a top sheet. Silk sheets btfo cotton sheets all day everyday. The one downside to them is silk on silk will slide around more so if you share the bed with a girlfriend they're never in the same spot in the morning as they were at night

If silk isn't for you, then yes, the higher the thread count usually the sifter the sheet. I say usually because a 1000 thread count walmart brand sheet won't compare to a 1000 count egyptian cotton sheets from a higher end retailer.

2 regular pillows vs 1 long pillow. You tell me.What different feel is the egyptian one. Is it softer?

2 pillows wouldn't fit on my small 32 inch twin bed brah.

Fitted sheets all the way, hate messing with normal ones.

Higher thread count means a tighter weave, and unless it's the dead of winter that's too hot for me. I prefer cotton in the 300-500 count range. Walmart sheets are actually really good (srs) but I'd go with Pottery Barn for the rest of your bedding. I have a synthetic down alternative duvet insert then a duvet cover.

There are specific pillows for king-sized bed (they're just longer). I put them side by side, then I have shams that I put on a seating area when I'm ready to go to bed.

Fitted sheet is the only way to go. I like 3 pillows. Head, in between my knees and sometimes ankles and one on my back. Thread count doesn’t mean fukall, it’s all about the quality of material and manufacturing process. Ones 400 count can be significantly better than a different companies 1250. Thread count numbers in general are useless

I require four pillows myself - two under my head, one between my legs, one to hug to support my shoulder.

You spend 30% of your time in bed. Invest in good sleep. Its very important.
Fitted sheet, flat sheet (optional), comforter
Pillow is all a matter of taste but you should be laying where you neck is in the appropriate position

As for sheets, forget thread count and all that BS. Cotton breathes the best.

Life changing sheets - SDH LLEGNA. Pretty expensive but 100% worth it.

Pillows depend on what you like; very individual IME. I usually prefer to set up my beds w/one kinda flat fold-able pillow and one fatter fluffier pillow for each person, so anything above a twin gets 4 pillows.

What kind of sheets do you like? Do you care about wrinkles enough to iron?

Personally I think a high quality cotton/poly percale sheet is really nice...they don't cling to you and get softer over time. I've had sateen and don't love them; very soft, but clingly/slippery, wrinkle, and wear our more quickly than percale.

Would suggest you actually go shop IRL if you have always just gotten whatever was cheapest. That way you can (and should) actually touch the fabric. Tuesday Morning used to have a decent selection of high end linens. Home Goods and Marshall's/TJMax are worth trying too.

For your comforter since you are talking about a cover I think you mean a duvet. Big range of materials and construction. You can tell some just by picking it up and judging the weight-heavier is better unless you actually want a lightweight one. You want quilting/box stitching to keep the filling from migrating and clumping up.

Some people that prefer a duvet will just get a flat sheet to put over the mattress cover (you got one of those right? waterproof, or at least resistant.) and then cases for the pillows and a cover for the duvet- no top sheet.

Or you might like a weighted blanket. Lot of people seem to, thought they are kinda $ for a good one.

How I make up beds changes w/the season- cotton sheets and maybe a light blanket & coverlet/bedspread in summer, flannel sheets and maybe a thicker blanket & bedspread in winter.

never less than 800 thread count Egyptian cotton crew. 4 pillows on bed crew. fitted sheet crew.

starfish bed crew. kick sloots to the curb crew so i can sleep in the whole bed.

Definitely fitted sheets, although I have never bought a set of sheets that didn't come that way already.
I don't get too caught up in thread count because a lot of companies grossly misrepresent that number. For example you can buy a set with a 1000 thread count but they feel like **** and start to pill in a few months. You can also buy a lower thread count but the material quality is good and they feel great. I go with a quality light-soft cotton sheet in the summer and for winter I switch to Boll and Branch flannel sheets which are the absolute tits if you like sleeping in a cold room like I do.

2Nobody uses 1 pillow you goober


By the way...I highly recommend flannel sheets for the winter if you live in a cold climate. There’s nothing worse than getting into a cold cotton sheeted bed.
