Why do mentally ill people gravitate towards forums?

srs, this never used to be the case for the most part, forums would generally have a very diverse user base of mostly neurotypical's

maybe because we dont have any other social outlet, I mean I live with grandparents who treats me like a kid so I prefer to stay away from them as much as possible

and Im too afraid to go to clubs and meet new people during corona

i think its an affinity towards the internet and it's ability to make you feel connected without actually being connected. if you spend enough time on the internet you stumble upon certain places and may feel a sense of belonging, etc. and what greater way of fulfilling that desire than an online forum if you're mentally ill

Because you have social access while being able to remain as anonymous as you want. Can be completely vulnerable with practically 0 consequences as long as you’re smart. Huge group of people you can find a niche for pretty much anything. Ease of access, don’t even have to leave your house. Perfect place for anyone with issues to gather

becuse forems are great for people who want social interaction but have anxity/autism/other probs, atleast thats why i misc. plus i dont fit in with most people.
