Am I the only one who dreads family gatherings?
brb some sort of retarded verbal arguements/fighting invariably breaks out at some point
brb listening to liberal relatives bitch about politics for about half of the gathering
brb deal with several of them making a mess with food in the living rooms
brb putting up with several ppl stinking up my house because they don't have the damn basic decency to courtesy flush when they take a disgusting chit that smells like a fkn pig barn next to a morgue.

Feel bad for you op. Love family gatherings, Christmas isn't Christmas without them. Spent a couple of Christmases without them and it felt empty tbh. Also kids make Christmas, you can see the wonder in their little souls and that pulls you back to more innocent times.
I suppose it depends on your relationship with them - could not live with them but it's always nice to see them.

Then again, I don't have everything completely set up for that yet. I have a damn nice finished basement with all the works now to the point where someone has most of their basic needs met there (nice bedrooms, awesome bathroom I've spent tons of time, effort and money on) and living room. Only problem is, I don't have the spare bedrooms done properly yet. I'll probably be a lot less annoyed by the overnight staying stuff once I get those bedrooms set up to accomodate multiple people so we can all have our own space to hang out when not actively visiting each other.
That and, I'm establishing a rule that we aren't talking politics in person at any family gatherings/visits anymore. So far, they've seemed okay with that. I'm gonna call them out and ask them to stick to the agreement if they start sneaking in politics talk. I'm actually really interested in politics, but talking/hearing about that crap gets really old really fast when I'm supposed to be having a good time with family rather than fretting about everything that sucks in the world. It's like seeing all the protests and SJW crap when watching sports these days. I'm not trying to hear about politics and social causes when I watch sports; I'm just trying to watch some people (usually) dressed in silly asss costumes perform athletic feats that few can for entertainment.

Used to dislike them and find them boring, would much rather stay at home. But it's a beta trait to have, I do think "family skills" is something to train, engang, and own. Any one at the table can flip the switch and set the topic and talk to make it a nice, enjoyable and inclusive experience for everybody.
Generally, females are often better at it than men, because men just dgaf
