Canadians out of a job due to covid got 2K/month for 7 months. That's about 1,550 USD a month. Students who couldn't work during the summer (think waiters etc) were also getting some money. About 8 out of 35 million Canadians received such money.

We have the covid relief fund so the money goes directly to the employers to cover 80% of wages during lockdown. Most people i know still got paid out 100%

Its a lot in Australia and is around 3k per month plus plus.
A lot of people quit their min wage jobs and worked for jobs that paid then only cash and still claimed unemployment benifits.
The small fish n chips coudnt find people for work.
But if ur employed, u get nothing apart from a big tax

Australia made the unemployment benefits 3x higher and gave any business affected (or able to tweak their financial statements to say they were affected) a heap of money per week per employee to not fire them.
Kinda hard to find the numbers quickly, but I think when these programs cease in March (if they do) they will have spent about $20k per Australian on average. Majority of us didn't get that though.

Worked since I was 15 and paid into this ****ty system and can't even get what I'm entitled to. The real kicker will be when generation X is the last one to receive Social Security.

All that cash basically gets pumped straight into the economy
Probably better than having sick people feel like they have no alternative but to work
Overall I’m ok with it

Its only furlough but I have been working full time since the first lockdown was lifted. Its 80% of wages. They keep extending it in the UK because they know chit will hit the fan in a big way.
They extended the scheme to April 2021. Combinign this "new" strain and Brexit its going to be one hell of a year.
