Ever Cut a Friend Out of Your Life?

Story time:

Friend of mine through a coworker (also a friend, his brother) we used to drink, concerts, we all went to the Coke 600 in Charlotte to visit his brother, etc. He didn’t have a large wedding, was invited and gave him a generous gift. Was in a few of his pools (NCAA, etc). So one of his buddies was running a pool, they needed more people so I was invited to participate. I don’t know the guy. I end up winning ~ $200 I think. Never get paid. Emailed his buddy maybe a few weeks after the pool I can’t remember if he responded but I didn’t get paid. Maybe a month later I happen to say to my buddy “hey I never got paid for the pool.” Wasn’t a dick, just stating reality. Well buddy went dark on me, never spoke to me again. Months after I probably sent a few texts to maybe invite out, go to a game, whatever, guy never responded. This was like 12 + years ago.

Lol, wake up this morning and I have a ******** friend request from him. WTF? Not going to accept, want nothing to do with the guy. But all over $200 that one of his friend’s owed me that I never said anything bad about.

****in $200

Yeah, my buddies coworker. We used to go to concerts, bars and sh!t. He admits he’s in love with me during March madness. Show it to all my fiends and they’re like wtf what a ******* lol. Go NC on his ass. Turns out he wins the March madness tournament and I owe him a couple hundred bucks or something. Ask him if I can Venmo it to him but he’s persistent on meeting up at some gay club downtown. I go NC again. Dude sent me a friend request on ******** this morning. Blocked the ****.

cut off a friend who went crazy after a few OJ cycles while doing tons of pepsi and other sodas. Never listened to any advice anyone gave him. Grew double D bobs (from the OJ), and went crazy with tattoos and piercings.

The reason i cut him off was because he went to jail for beating his gf, on camera in an elevator downtown Toronto (jfl). I got no clue where he is now, probably back in jail.

Most of my friends turned into alcoholics, so I've ghosted most of them.

One childhood friend was my roommate once and he acted like he was in charge of the apartment and as if I was subordinate to him. Turned into a real douche.

Something similar happened to me. Moved in with a buddy thinking it would great, he ended up becoming super weird and acted like it was only his apartment.(We split all costs evenly) Ended up ruining our relationship, which worked out in the end as he is a loser srs.

Well think of it like this, atleast you didint invest alot into the friendship.
The $200 which was a very small investment in a friendship (which made you realize the kind of person he is) compared to the hours of time and $$money you could've put into it
( dont know how to phrase it correctly, but i hope you get what i mean)

I just cut a 20+ year friend out of my life because his alcoholism has gone too far. I’ve tried to help the guy so much that it’s caused me way too much harm. I’ve been in at least 5 street fights because of him and his mouth. I’m too much of a bleeding heart to have let him go sooner but he was a good hearted guy up until he got drunk. The past few years he’s been drunk from morning til night tho and you can’t save someone who doesn’t want to be saved.
This body holding me, be my reminder here that I am not alone.

Not close friends. Many friends just fade away. Childhood best friend grew up to be a complete loser, but I still keep contact with him. Hard to walk away from almost a 30 year friendship, and he has a lot of issues that led to him being a loser.

I did have a friend that I made a few years ago that I started noticing would lie about stuff all the time. Then I invited him over a few times to hang out while my wife was having girl time, and he was weird as hell around my kids the last time. Like ****philia vibes (srs).

Hard to explain. But like, asking me if it’s weird changing my little girls, then walked into one of their rooms while I was taking a piss and looking around their stuff while they were in there playing. I told him I gotta get them ready for bed and he’s gotta go. Haven’t spoken to him since.

Friend from high school got arrested last year for touching his girlfriends kids. Ya never know.

On the contrary. He was probably given the money to give to you and kept it.

Yep. More than one because they pretty much thought I was a twat and didn't bother to hide it. Others were more situational like just drifting apart. IME friends are not easy to find but it's far from impossible so you're better off dumping bad friends and losers in order to level up your social life. You shouldn't let fear of losing friends hold you back from making decisions about moving for better career choices or whatever. You can get new friends but you don't get a second life.

I had one friend from high school that was texting me and I didn't have my phone on me at the time. When I seen my phone there was a bunch of texts from him asking for a favor, and I told him I'm just barely seeing his texts and didn't have my phone on me at the time. Because I didn't text back right away he blocked me on everything and I never seen or heard from him again. It's literally been 10 years.

had a best friend from the age of about 12, we were very close.

he came out as gay when we were about 23 (didn't matter, we had a lot of gay friends), and started wearing turtlenecks and drinking red wine. he wanted to hang out ALL THE TIME, but I had started a job on the other side of town in hospitality and was making heaps of new friends, and dating a lot of chicks.

I began a 1.5 year relationship with one of his close female friends. he moved to Canada and married a dude. I reached out a couple of times, but it became clear he was perma-butthurt. When my brother died, I was super vulnerable and reached out one final time. he didn't reciprocate.

Looking back, I probably didn't make enough of an effort or support him while he was coming out. It doesn't bother me too much, because I'm one of those lucky people who has about 15 great friends, particularly 3-4 who I've known since I was 4 years old.

So I ain't even mad about it.
