In most cases. But I feel like on Mondays most people refer to next weekend as the coming weekend since we just came out of a weekend.

What calendar are you looking at? Monday is the 21st Tuesday is the 22nd.

This coming weekend is the same thing as saying this next weekend.

You’re clarifying it’s not “this” weekend. It’s “this coming” or “this next” weekend.

Next weekend is just short for this next weekend

Coming weekend is this also short for this coming weekend. “This” is dropped because it’s unnecessary, since “this weekend” is the current weekend

The dictionary solves this for everyone using “next” incorrectly

The American Heritage Dictionary (4th ed) defines 'next' simply as

“Immediately following, as in time, order, or sequence”


Following this definition, "next weekend" will always mean the weekend with the start date in closes proximity in time. If the phrase is used during a weekend, of course, you'd be referring to the weekend following the one you are currently experiencing.

But if you are in the middle of a week, next weekend is the one immediately upcoming


So many uneducated miscers can’t even properly use the word “next” in a sentence
