There is nothing more annoying than people in sales who...
who think they are revenue generators
I'm a salesperson myself but lol at thinking you are MVP at companies that sell software. That's software engineers. Selling means nothing without a product.
BRB 'in sales'
BRB 'I'm responsible for x million dollars of revenue this company brings in yet only get paid x% of it"
BRB completely ignore the cost of overhead, cost of product development, cost of client management etc.
BRB have no hard skills at all. College degree literally in anything from anywhere U
BRB think you are the MVP for picking a phone up and making some calls, when you can easily be replaced

Your value isn't derived from what you do in your job, so much as what you do better than someone they could replace you with. Sure you 'brought in' that much because of the software that was designed and all the expense that went into that. And if you left the company that $10 million wouldn't disappear, but just be a chunk of change someone else is responsible for and will likely have no issue replacing. One thing I have learned from being a corporatecel is that the bigger the corporation, the more replaceable its people are, including the executives.
I cringe when people say something like “no I’m handling the [big client]’s account, they need me, they’ll definitely give me this raise/not fire me/promote me”

Agree that anyone who thinks they arent replaceable is a clown. And that's even more reason why people should always be ready for when they get thrown to the curb. I've been in offices during layoffs and have seen tears/emotional goodbyes/ etc. Pretty pathetic. You should be able to move on and if a company says it's time to go dont take it personal and just get a better paying job somewhere else

I've in been in both sales and behind the scenes. Salespeople are much more fun and easy to talk to. They also tend to exaggerate things for the sake of the story they are trying to tell and much more commonly smoke cigs for whatever reason. Behind the scenes people are usually smarter and more autistic acting so you wind up in awkward situations with them more often.

Worked in healthcare recruitment for 6 years, some things i seen below.
Front Office: Sales Floor
- Top Biller was bringing home after tax 10k a month every month, still in debt due to addiction.
- You are only as good as your last month GDP.
- Even if you have been consistent for years, if you have 2 bad months you are gone.
- Everybody drinks like a fish to deal with the pressure, like 1am parties on Monday night.
- They will fire you if you kick up a fuss about a rise or promotion.
- If you start work at 8:30am and your not at the desk at 7:30m you will be looked down upon, nobody leaves before 8pm.
- Office atmosphere is so much better.
Back Office: HR/Admin/Payroll/Billing
- Boring zombies
- Hot girls

When billybob gates had the idea for Microsoft did he just start that **** up? No (well maybe he did idk lol, just an example). He went to investors and sold them on his idea.
When real estate is being developed, do they move along with construction on their own dime? No, they sell the properties and use that funding to start construction.
Etc etc

You have two products that do the same thing. You need to communicate why your product is the best. Also long term customer relationship management is important as well. The sale isn’t over when the client buys. There is an element of customer retention there too.
For example look at salesforce, I’ve worked at 4 companies that use salesforce and every version of salesforce that I’ve worked with is different and tailored to the particular company. Does it make sense to take your developers out of the office and into the field to communicate with clients/prospects when they have software to develop? Probably not so you hire a sales team to do this.
Look at how much salesforce spends on sales and marketing for example. I’m sure there are millions of nerds out there who can develop a CRM system. Salesforce wins because they communicate their value proposition effectively relative to the competition.

Business relies more on selling the products than making/acquiring the products. Not really shocking tbh. Welcome to capitalism.
