Why does the news constantly hype/lie about the weather?

We had warnings and reports of wind gusts of 65+ MPH and sustained winds of 35mph and flooding

It hardly rained and I've been tracking the wind in real time on a website. The highest sustained wind was 18mph and the wind gust topped at 44mph


Usually they do it in DC too for the snow. They will use a ridiculous margin like 2-12 inches of snow predicted. Then it will hardly snow and inch or rain.

They were no where near close to being correct and were warning people it was too dangerous to travel because of the winds/rain
