Any half-Latino/half-white brahs here claim to be white?

I’m half white, half Latino (Irish and English on my mother’s side) and I have a half white, half Latino cousin who is half German. He claims white, despite being dark enough to be mistaken for an immigrant from Mexico. (Also known as border brothers.)

At my grandmother’s funeral he tried telling me I was unworthy to listen to the heavy metal genre because I’m not German. This was back in the 1990s. I tried telling him that heavy metal wasn’t created by Germans, it is an American music genre.

I have always claimed Latino despite being half white, because in my opinion claiming white in my situation and my cousins situation is pure cope.

Who agrees with me?

Latinos are mixed anyways. Wouldnt surprise me if you are mostly European. I am, then about 17% Native.


Ive always just said "Hispanic" but not necessarily ever used the term "Latino". Ive used "Chicano" on occasion. I do not sympathize with Latinos and its anti white rhetoric that gets me angry so I guess thats where I stand.

Half mex, half white (swedish/irish)
Don't know Spanish, don't have the culture, don't give a chit. I'm American, so is my Dad, so are my grand parents. Grandparents in my dad's side gave all his sons American sounding names (no Jose or Juan or Pablo), cos guess what-we fukkin live in America. Grandpa was in the army during WW2, as were some great uncles. Kinda happy I'm "white looking" and don't rush to correct anyone who assumes I'm white.

this, it is what your mind inside is, the real you. You could be born with 1 testicle but that doesnt make you 50% man and 50% women, you could have 1 testicle and be 100% woman.

I don’t always use the term “Latino” I’ve used Mexican, Mexican-American, Hispanic, etc.

I just mean don’t identify as white. When dealing with blacks, they think of me as white, but whites perceive me as Mexican.

In most cases it doesn’t make sense for someone to be half Hispanic and half white and not identify as white. Especially if their Hispanic half is Harnizo (60/40 European to Amerindian ratio) or Castizo (75/25). If their Hispanic side is a Mestizo (50/50) then it gets a little more debatable as they would be a Castizo but really it then comes down to what they identify with more culturally and how they look, which in most cases would be white. However if the Hispanic side is mostly or entirely Mexican Indian then it makes little sense to identify as white.

There two types

Tony Romo who has Hispanic dad and white mom but looks white, grew up around white people and has white kids. = white

Selena Gomez or Jessica Alba both have white moms but look Hispanic and probably consider themselves Hispanic
