Christmas painting for all my misc brahs !

I painted this scene fairly quickly yesterday. I wanted to create a more or less quaint xmas themed painting. This one was fun since I just started putting paint on the canvas without really any idea where it would go. I'm not able to 'see' the painting in my mind before I begin, so I just let it flow naturally and began seeing things as I progressed. This was the result. I still have difficulty painting cabins but figured I'd give it a shot anyway. I wanted to paint it so that someone was home with the lights on.

This was relaxing and lots of fun. Took me around 2 hours. I wanted to share it with all of you.

Hope you all had a pleasant Christmas

Nah not at all. I've been painting only for nearly 2 years now, practicing usually one painting every 2 weeks watching Bob Ross. It's not as difficult as it may look!

Great point and observation. Nope, absolutely not. This will be something to consider for the future. Thanks a lot for pointing it out!

It's all good. I'll post tomorrow morning. I really have no reason to fraud. I've been posting these threads for a while now to try and motivate other members here to begin painting themselves. No need for apologies. I get wanting to solidify whether this is possible or real.

I grabbed the spoon pic now. I have a busy morning tomorrow and I'd most likely forget.

Also grabbed a shot of one of the room's walls with a few other past creations.

Cool man, cool.

The barn reminds me of a painting my Grandmother did that we had hanging in the family room in my early years.

That one was challenging but a lot of fun. The bright green on the black is a striking contrast.

Suggestion on lighting..shadow under the gable ends of the roof to give dimension and shading the bright white roof on back side

Do you use his brand or another?

This is a great suggestion, with just the top shining brighter. Ironically, I was trying really hard for that titanium white snow to stay 'pure' on the roof. Since it's wet on wet, if you catch a bit of brown or black, your snow immediately becomes 'muddied.' Bob was always talking about those 'happy accidents' on his show. I've experienced a number of these that actually make paintings better. This would have been one of those. Thanks again for taking the time to point this out. I'll try and adapt this to future paintings and really consider lighting.

I started out with a "Bob Ross Master Paint kit," so I had small tubes of his brand of paints. However, they don't sell those at my local art store, so I usually go with the Van Gogh brand. It's pretty cheap but you need dry, firm paint to paint in this style, and the Van Gogh paints provide me with that. Their titanium white is especially firm.

I use mostly his brushes, though, with a few others I purchased when I began branching out.

I love Xmas and somehow the light through the window of that small hut in the quiet winter night brought tears to my eyes.

Thanks brah! It's the perfect painting style for me because it allows me to paint start to finish in a short time frame. I'm admittedly notoriously bad at working on artistic projects in small increments. I've been a songwriter over half my life and have hundreds of unfinished compositions on my computer. My best ones are the ones I conceive and create to completion in one sitting, starting with a few chords, all of the skeleton of the song, all of the instruments, all of the lyrics, all of the vocals, recorded in my studio as I go. So, I go from having 3 chords to a finished, recorded track in about 5-6 hours.

This is the main reason why I like this wet-on-wet style so much. You basically have to finish it all in one shot.
