HOME GYM MISCERS- What lube to use on home latpulldown machine? (Srs)

Some guy gave me his Body Solid lat pulldown machine (plate loaded) for free off craigs list type of site. Its pretty jerky, should I use vaseline or wd-40 on it?

I tried WD-40, ripped the cable. White lithium grease is working well.

Yep. Search for Silicon spray lubricant on Amazon. WD-40 eats through the plastic or rubber coating on the cables over time.

Basically the cables and wheels are fine. Its the tubular column that moves up and down that seems to be jerky, let me attach a pic to show more clearly -




- so would wd40 or silicone spray be okay? Not sure about the white silicone grease thing

You could try Garage Door Lubricant.

Mine is made by Titan Fitness and I spray a little WD-40 into it every few months when it starts to feel a little grindy.

wd-40 is not a lubricant and is quite literally the opposite of a lubricant

spray some dry graphite lube on there or a thin layer of white lithium grease

Well it works.

I’ve also used 3-in-One oil in there and that works fine too.

I had a similar issue with my column. Its just square tube with a plastic sleeve - if its like mine?
I used Graphite powder (dry). Hardware stores have it.

i prefer white lithium grease because itl stay where you put it. things like WD40 work, but they are runny and wont stay on vertical pieces, like stainless steel guide rods.
