Should you own a crossbow for SHTF situations?

I been looking at crossbows and think they're pretty cool, thinking about buying one just for the hell of it. Then I thought it'd be a damn good weapon if I didn't have any bullets.

Have a longbow and practice enough to be able to protect myself. Don't want a gun in the house because of small kids so it's the best option.

Funny you mention longbow, my dad bought one. What are some arrows I can buy so he can practice?

There's no such thing as too much lol. Besides a cross bow doesn't require an actual range, you can DIY one.

There is nothing sexy about a cross bow. Every time I see a dude with a cross bow at the archery range we all just sigh and say “ the gun range is on the other side”

Loading those things takes forever and we usually have to wait till said crossbow-man is done with his arrows to go pick up ours on the range.

I got a compound bow, shooting 60lb

They are quiet, they are almost untracable, and deadly AF. You can shoot into, or out of water with a lot more power. A bullet will stop in only a few inches of water but a arrow will go on for several feet. Some body armor that can stop high power rifle rounds don't do that well with an arrow because they are designed to disperse kenetic energy and arrows have a lot more potential. Underated weapon.

I had a compound bow and I now have a traditional recurve bow. My recurve has a 50 lbs draw weight and is more than enough to take out the biggest game in my area.

When it comes to accuracy, it's all about practice. If you're good enough with the weapon the accuracy will be fine. edit: I imagine there is not much difference, but poster below me says there is so that's interesting.

What bothers me about the crossbow would be the reload speed. Never had one, but I imagine it takes longer than a bow.


I'd have to get a crossbow and play around with it to see which weapon I prefer. It would come down to choosing between a recurve bow and a crossbow.

Today’s standards... yeah xbows are for ****s and should be limited to rifle season.

In shtf scenario xbow beats a compound every time. More accurate, easier to draw (with a coking device) more power, way less skill to use, bolts are smaller then arrows, can remain coked while stalking.

I was a first time plandemic gun buyer last year. Pistol, shotgun, rifle, then ended up with a takedown recurve bow. That thing will take some getting used to.

Ten point are good but not decent priced. Try archery talk for second hand. Some people buy the latest model every year and barely use them

i had a bigbore blow gun back in the day and killed a squirrel with it, was not a pretty kill either it stuck him to a tree and I had to grab a pellet gun to shoot the poor thing

but blow guns are fckin awesome highly recommend

Cross bows are heavier than a compound bow and slow to reload for follow up shots.

You're better to get a conpound bow and some broadheads.

But for SHTF purposes, you're gonna want your arrows back, they're not cheap...just use a firearm.

I think I'm convinced to a recurve bow. Lighter than crossbow, less mechanical pieces, faster reloaded.

Only downside is less range than compound bow

The problem with a lot of people here is that they own a firearm already, so owning a crossbow (except hunting) makes no sense. You guys are lucky.

In chithole countries like the UK, things aren’t as easy. Legal firearm possession is non-existent, so crossbows are the only weapon we can use to defend our home when SHTF. Cocking it quickly and under pressure can be pretty easy when you’ve practiced it. It’s not ideal, but neither is receiving a 675-grain hammer broadhead in the chest.

I have a mini compound 55 pound draw weight but I feel scared the string is gonna come off the rail and snap me in the face idk it seems odd pulling so hard at my face with a loaded string. And idk where to attach an aiming device to it, its not like a traditional compound bow, it has a pistol grip that is set back from the bow
