Do You Enjoy What You Do For Work?

Most of us are wagecels, so we should at least enjoy what we do right?

I'll go first. I actually do enjoy my current position of Senior Threat Analyst. The actual work is enjoyable, lots of thinking, company listens to feedback so we're directly involved in the alerts and detection logic/tuning. Threat hunting is fun, the hours are solid (4x10's no on call), pay is decent, quarterly bonuses and a Christmas bonus plus the company covers my health insurance premiums.

Free food, drinks and beer when I do go into the office but I mainly WFH.

What about you bros?

Automotive tech at a dealership. I used to absolutely love it but now it's becoming a SSDD situation. When I was up and coming, I had goals and was learning, plus I believed being a master technician would be much more glorious than it actually is. Call me Excedrin because all I deal with is annoying headaches.

Absolutely hate it. But it required literally 8 years of training after college and I don't have other skills and so am stuck

I'm a cloud systems engineer but I do a bit of everything from networking to cloud computing to storage, sometimes I even get my hands dirty racking gear. Lots of variety, tough problems to solve and I'm decent at it.

I don't think it's the field itself I enjoy but the fact that I get the satisfaction of solving real world problems. Just feels really nice when I finish the final piece of a project and it all works together seamlessly.

I'm currently in the early stages of my own business that's unrelated to IT, but I similarly like the problem solving aspects.

Truck driver who has been a lot of different places the last 5 years, now I deliver beer locally and while the work is hard and heavy, I love driving and having the same customers and stores, you really get to know them and their families even. I rarely work Monday, never on weekends and usually less than 30 hrs a week. Christmas week last year I worked 18 hrs, as an example.

My salary is modest but it’s always the same. Christmas and New Years I get Visa gift cards or free alcohol as a thank you, not to mention the amount of free non-alcoholic drinks I can just take, Red Bull’s, chips, snacks, whatever. A lot of my bars and restaurants give me discounts or certain things for free.

I enjoyed my job as a warehouse supervisor...didn't feel like work at all because I loved it, loved the people I worked with, hated the commute though. was an entire city away from me.

my other job was managing people with developmental disabilities in a production place, packing for small businesses to help them have an income, i loved it except for my senior supervisors.

my next career is going to be a white collar job.... and i will ****ing hate it i think. not looking forward to dressing up "professionally" like a walking suit. sitting on a desk, phone calls, and emails. etc etc. but it will pay more than my previous careers.

I grind away fishing crab for about 6 months a year it's the best job ever. Get paid directly off how much we deliver so can make between 0-100k in a month and I'm a degenerate gambling addict so it's perfect.

I rent houses to tradies by the week. Money is really good, but I have to deal with a lot of drama. A dead body over Thanksgiving was the last drama. There were 2 other dead bodies over the Christmas break, but that was at the future tenants home town.
