Misc electricians or advanced tradies need help (will tip srs)

So one of the circuits on my breaker tripped and it’s stuck in the middle. I can’t move it to off or on, it’s just stuck. I tried turning off all the circuits including the main power and it still won’t budge.

Is there a fix I can do myself? I’m guessing something on the board is broken but have no idea what to do next. Or do I need to call the electric tradie

Not an electrician, but the break is probably bad, just throw the main breaker, pull it out, take it to Lowes and get a new one.

Is this something I should attempt or might I fuk something up pretty bad. Other people on sites found from googling were saying it should be done for insurance reasons in case something fuks up, or some places even by law have to be done by someone licensed.

just turn off your main breaker, pull the old one out, pop the new one in

I'd probably do it just to get it done ASAP, literally all you need is a screwdriver. I'm a pharmacist by trade, I always weigh cost/time when I'm looking at repairs and maintenance.

If a service call in of itself is more expensive than the actual repair, I always do those. It'll literally take an electrician 10 min to fix it, might take you 20 plus going to get the breaker?

As long as there is no problem throwing the main breaker, easy peasy.

All of these are good answers. Turn off the main breaker at the top of the panel. Remove the faulty breaker and take it to a hardware store to buy a replacement. You need a phillips and a straight blade screwdriver. While you are at it, buy an alternating current detector. $10, about the size of a fountain pen.

It's as easy as replacing a receptacle if you don't touch anything above the main shutoff, that's live. Turn off the main breaker, shutoff take the cover off the box, pull the bad breaker out, you'll see a few wires attached, hook those up to the new breaker the exact same way, put it back in, you're done.

just don't be a hero and try to do it with the main breaker still on. too many things can go wrong and a 1/4" slip can cost you your life.

edit: even with the main breaker off, the incoming power wires are still hot, so be careful around those as well.
