Depends on what you want to do on it.
Probably slow AF especially after Windows fills it with bloatware.

Prolly could’ve gotten a decent laptop on sale for that around Black Friday. Stalk slickdeals until a good laptop pops up. Obviously a pc tower with monitor, peripherals, etc would add up costing too much.

i'm talking 800 for just the tower--is that too low to be useful? anyone know if the prebuilt PC's off amazon would be worth it?

You can edit videos with a $50 pc. You don’t need some high end chit for that.

afraid you're gonna need a Titan V gpu in order to run final cut pro and adobe premier. $800 isn't close to enough OP

If all you need is the case and what goes inside then you could build something decent. If you need monitor, mouse, and keyboard then I'd push that to $1000 at least.

Adobe Premier Pro? If you want it for video editing, you basically need a gaming spec computer. Video editing hogs up resources and requires a both a strong CPU and nice graphics card with decent ram.
I'm over simplifying/ I mean, if you are just editing video as a hobby and won't be touching any 4k footage then you can probably get away with a poverty PC. Of course, if you are not serious about video editing, why pay for a Pro Adobe subscription? You'd be better off cancelling that subscription and using something free like DaVincci Resolve and buying a good computer.

Don't get a laptop. Graphics card are always gimped and at the price range the cpu runs hot due to bad thermals

Pcpartpicker and use that logical website

800 for a tower alone will do you pretty good, 800 plus all your peripheries and your going to have to make sacrifices. Do you want upgradability or is that not as important? Used market might be your friend but it seems that everything is on fire rn in terms of graphics cards/mining rigs. Id say if you can bump your total to 1000 if you need to get a monitor. I made the switch from 1080p@60hz to 1440p@144hz and it has been the best upgrade I have done to date. Depends on your application really.

upgradability to some degree would be good but not a dealbreaker if i can't have it. the 800 was not including peripherals--planning to get a used monitor, also open to getting a used tower but i was hoping someone could give me an idea of what specs I should be looking for. dude above said 3600 cpu and then the rest is kind of whatever but i feel like i should be paying attention to the graphics card as well

I run a 3600. My system ran about 1250 including monitor. x570 Aurous Elite, Ballistix 16g 3200mhz ram, 5700xt, 750w corsair psu. I think the graphics card is important but right now the market is inflated in terms of price, you would be paying a pretty premium. Some prebuilt systems may suit you at that price, check reddit/r/buildapcsales for deals and look at some youtube. Linus/Jayztwocents have tons of info on everything you might need to know.
