Switzerland will hold a referendum on whether to strip the government of its power to impose new lockdown measures.

It comes amid an increasing national debate about the rights of individuals, the Financial Times reported.

The Swiss government this week tightened existing measures amid concern about new, more transmissible strains of the virus which have been linked to rising infection rates

afaik switzerland is one of, if not the country, that comes closest to real direct democracy with regular referendums on all kinds of things

mirin but if you had the same thing in a heavily brainwashed country such as the US right now, chances are it'll screw you over until people realize how deranged their beliefs are

I think so, but I'm not sure how exactly it's all calculated when there are nationwide referendums

the cantons forfeited their rights to make smaller adjustments (lockdown wise) because they did not want to have the responsibility for it - so yes parliament AKA monsieur alain berset has full power

you're still ahead of the rest of the europe.

you guys actually had referendums on chit like whether or not to keep public broadcast services which germany is trying to avoid at all costs because they know they'd likely get destroyed. people don't want to pay 30 bucks a month for some bullcrap brainwashing program that they do not watch.

switzerland is not ahead of the rest of europe, they are exactly on the same level since 1971, the year they gave women voting rights

that wasn't the only mistake btw but a big one, allowing media monopoly is another one
according to what I've read, you actually voted to keep them. apparently people found the proposal to be 'too radical' and hence majority voted no. I don't know how bad public broadcasting in switzerland is. but looking at the results, it's probably not as bad as in other places.

but the mere fact that you've had a referendum is what puts you ahead. I know in germany they'd likely get voted into non-existence and that would be glorious. that's why I'm mirin.

No turks ? Maybe swiss i different after all, in austria you get the looks if you look balkan/turk and i am saying that after years of trying to blend in

Switzerland has remained very passive in terms of warfare

I have heard Germans are really cold

I am from an Eastern EU country very close to Turkey and all of my friends are British and Chinese as I live in the UK

I have an Austrian mate but ofc he would be very friendly given that we were in the same academic social circle, he did uni in London and that kunt is top 5 in the course and is now doing a PhD in Switzerland JFL.

Thats the major issue i guess, us southern euros have to many expectations about friendship etc, while germans/austrians are cold and wont invite you to their house/apartment after years of knowing them
