1.5 years cancer free. Reps till im out.

Many of you know I had a bone marrow transplant in June 2019.
My older brother was my donor [thank god]

Had spent the previous 3ish years prior BMT on various chemo regiments including a clinical trial of immunotherapy.

Yesterday I had my 1.5 year scan.
100% clean.
I'll have 1 more scan in June 2021, and I'm DONE.


[Ordered pizza with my mom to celebrate, she would drive every other day 2 hours each way just to see me in the hospital and bring me fresh food]

Doctor said he enjoys seeing me because its great to see all the treatments finally work.

Has been an insanely wild ride, but so much to learn from.

I heard it's quite painful when they take it from the donor. Is that true or has stuff advanced a lot in recent years?

Nowadays its done primarily through blood donation through an aphersis machine.


Aka you sit in a chair for 4+hours as a machine pulls your blood out and separates stem cells and returns the blood back into a separate iv.
Basically painless





Rarely do they actually use bone marrow samples.

That's interesting to hear how much progress can be made in a relatively short period of time. A friend of mine donated samples in the past for a family member. I think they had to use the 2nd method.

I'm sure it's a huge weight off of your shoulders. Time to crush life now!

Looking back. Yes it was pretty obvious something was wrong.


Lost ~40lbs in a few months.
Cough that last months
Night sweats that drenched all my clothing
Entire body rash that no ointment helped
Went from benching 360lbs to barely benching 135lbs.
Insanely fatigued. But could never sleep due to the cough.
Random fevers where I would sweat entirely through my work shirts

I probably didn't sleep for longer than 2hr intervals for probably 3-4months




All srs

But on a different note. Some cancers have different symptoms. Some have more. Some have non. But weightloss is always a concern as cancer drains YOU in order to grow the cancer

But I had gone to various doctors and they would all tell me the same thing.


"You have asthma" here is an inhaler
"You're allergic to something, try this ointment"
" here take this antibiotic"


One dr eventually told me:
"I'm gonna be honest. I think you might have some form of lymphoma or leukemia"
