Shopping around the interwebs looking for some wood lots to buy in the next 2-3 years. I'd like to start with something around a 100 acres and build a cabin on it.

I'd mostly use it for recreational activities like hunting, fishing if there is a body of water on it/nearby, foraging and small scale wood harvesting, for wood working projects or firewood.

What kind of forest stand is on your property? How big is it? What do you do on it? Post pictures if you want.

It's in Canada boyo, so far I'm only looking in the Quebec province, but would be open to buying elsewhere depending on where the job market takes me.

It depends. I'd like a plot of land on which I would build a cabin that would be completely off grid. I'd use it as a cottage every other month and as hunting grounds during the season.

I would also like, ideally, a large woodlot that I can build a house on, so I can manage the forest regularly. One of the three I posted is ?viable? (not sure if I'm translating properly) which means that Hydro can get there and the municipality would permit building a house on it, which would be nice.

I remember you got a cabin for your trap line on crown land, but I assume your main residence is on private property? Is it completely off grid? What do you do on it besides hunting and fishing?

Isn't the point of rural off grid places on lots of acreage that you don't have to give a fukk about getting permits and dealing with municipalities?



We've done long term leases on acreage and built hunting cabins and stuff on them. Your millage may vary but in Louisiana nobody is going on rural properties for 'inspections' or any of that nonsense.

For a cabin, for sure, I won't give a rat's ass about their regulations.

But for a house with electricity it might be different, I haven't looked into it yet. Good point though.

I don't own land like what your're lookin for mate. Alot of NZ is farm land, and you're never far from an ocean so alot of it is coastal.

Yes, I would like to own woodland. There is still a fair amount of it around. I know guys that own commercial foresty blocks, they keep bees on the land which offset the property taxes, might be something to think about.
