Fight Club and Overcoming Emasculation

Written by DrewDarden and narrated by Rajc.

Srs though this is a well done video.

The title could have also been “Fight Club and Overcoming Nihilism.”

Cliffs mixed with my thoughts
-Western Civilization killed God and replaced him with consumerism and the need to be constantly entertained
-But this leaves men with a big hole inside them because as Apollo Creed said (paraphrased from memory, sorry) before he died: “We’re the warriors. And without some damn war to fight, the warrior may as well be dead.”
-This leaves those of us (read incels and other whiny lil’ bitches) without purpose to lay around complaining that life stinks and there is no purpose.
-So take back your manhood and find your purpose.
-Srs
-Narrator takes much of his information from Zarathustra, which I haven’t read. But I have read The Antichrist and Beyond Good and Evil

Watched and listened to the whole thing.

It was interesting and I enjoyed it. However, I'd like to push you on certain points.

The conclusion you reach is that society has shifted away from the traditional Christian worldview, which has resulted in a crisis of Being for Man. The emasculation of man, combined with the lack of consequence to life, has produced a feeling of general apathy and disinterest in life. This is depicted in Fight Club as the struggle and the trial of the Narrator.

You note that the Narrator's fights with Tyler are symbolic for the pain and suffering which men are to go through to achieve self-actualization. You state that Man's purpose is to suffer (consistent with Nietzsche's philosophy, and Buddhism), and then you argue that men are born to fight. I disagree with this assessment -- fighting, to me, represents the Narrator's struggle with an ever-encroaching State and the monopoly on violence. Many men chafe under this monopoly, feeling restrained and cut out from a traditional outlet for emotion and aggression. However, man's natural inclination towards violence, testosterone, etc. is ultimately just as masturbatory as any of Fight Club's other outlets (the cancer sessions, alcohol anonymous). The point being that violence is just as useless and meaningless in guiding an individual's self-actualization as any other of the previously mentioned examples. Never forget the matter of perception. To some, hitting rock bottom = joining a "men's group" which beats the sh*t out of one another in a basement. Nietzsche seems to me to stand for the argument that acts of creation is ultimately the preferred act of self-actualization as it pits the individual against the cowardice of the herd. And although you mention that acts of destruction can be conceived as acts of creation, that requires some mental gymnastics on the part of the Individual.

Secondly, the "feminization" of Man to me represents a modern projection applied to Fight Club. Martha and the handling of her character to me seems better to represent women equally going through their trials with society. We might take for granted that the docility of man in modern society is testament to his emasculation, yet, here in the same film you have a woman who is equally struggling to find her meaning to life. She might emasculate, but she also empowers the Narrator. Men aren't being "feminized" in Fight Club. They are being divided, conquered, and pacified by every day existence, but they are certainly notfeminized-- Bob's boobs aside. I am Jack's slight chagrin.

Finally, the "Character Development" of your Fight Club/Project Mayhem member does not represent a transition in Nietzsche's Ubermensch. Cattle-like men join fight club --> Realize they have repressed some of their true nature --> join cattle-like terrorist group to create a prehistoric "utopia" according to one man's vision. They have traded one set of fetters for another. This is inherently nihilistic, and the collectivism of the Project Mayhem entity is revealed in their treatment of the dead. You're just a number in PM until you die, and then, you become a man. It's just a continued application of slave morality, albeit rewired for someone else.

Fun vid tho. My two cents on Fight Club are that it remains a cutting film whose edge hooks on those who are dissatisfied with society. Ultimately, the book's conclusion is that the: "warrior monk" answer it suggests is just as empty and masturbatory as the pursuit of luxury and hedonism that it rails against. Maybe that was Palahnuik's point.

^^^

Btw I was joking when I said I wrote it.

The reason I wrote that was for anyone who has read any of my posts, they would automatically know that I’m in strong agreement with much of what’s stated in the video. And the narrator does have a hint of Rajc vibe going on.

Particularly on the feminization part, I thought that was a bit of a stretch too. That’s why I gave the alternative title at the beginning of my post.

Like 99% of men are hopeless superlosers you want probably literally nothing to do with, and probably half or more of these actively try to screw up your life and make the world worse for everyone else.

The percentage is a little too high and I'd disagree on that word hopeless, but yeah, it's really no surprise that the incel young men on this forum are getting the results they're getting.
