Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Kinda Sucked

Loved the acting, loved the cinematography. But there was basically no plot. 3 hours of just going from scene to scene with nothing really happening. The climax was too short and pretty dumb. No payoff. No investment in any of the characters. I really don't get the hype.

It was nothing special. There are people that will jerk off over whatever Tarantino puts out though so it's not surprising.

Yeah I agree.

It was a Tarantino jerk-off film, and he basically admitted as much in interviews about it.

Avoid Tarantino movies crew
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

My ex-gf wanted to see it, so we went when it was in the theaters.
I don't follow movies (except for my kids), so I didn't know anything about it except Brad and Leo were in it.

I thought it was great for a couple hours of entertainment. Not a meaningful or mindblowing movie, but good fun.

It was long winded and an okay pay off. I think QT said this was a love story to Hollywood.

If you want good dialogue and a good plot you should watch Hateful Eight.

It's a fun movie but it's nothing amazing. I really enjoyed it and would watch it again, but it's definitely not one of my favorite movies ever.

It was terrible except for the last 15 minutes. And I'm a huge Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs fan.

"Kind of" sucked? Movie was garbage. I think of most Tarantino movies almost like the show Seinfeld. There's a plot there, but it's very character driven and you're mostly focused on the how the characters act and converse in these situations. Both are very intelligent and unique in how they do this.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood had none of the good dialogue or interactions between characters. It was just a series of dull, pointless events. The only part that was semi-interesting on the first watch was Booth's trip to Spahn Ranch. But it fell flat, and watching it a second time it is completely monotonous. The movie has zero replay value. No intelligent dialogue. Brad and Leo are essentially not even in the movie together. They will at times briefly meet up, but Brad will have no dialogue, and Leo will just cry about something, then they are off on their own again. And the end was just try-hard, shock humor that was just a bastardization of Inglourious Basterds.

Tarantino would have been better off making a walking simulation through his old Hollywood sets than this pointless film.

He hasn’t made a decent film since Jackie Brown.

Everything since is an indulgent mess. Couple of good scenes in most of them, I just skip to those and then turn it off

Tarantino has reached the point where he can work on any passion project and it will still attract big name actors, studio funding, and a large audience. It was a mediocre movie but I'm guessing Tarantino had a lot of fun making it.

Huge let down imo. Great cast and the one fight scene was pretty crazy but overall I was hoping for a much better movie.

Glad to learn ITT that I'm not the only one totally unimpressed by Tarantino. The self-indulgent revisionist history of some of his recent films is just kind of cringy to me.
