Results from first week of PSMF

Spoiler!

Started at 191.2 lb., down to 184.8 today after one week. At about a 1,800-2,000 calorie deficit so I think I'm down about 3-4 lb. of fat, and the rest water. Going to do 2 more weeks and re-assess.
My weight blew up the last quarter of 2020, mainly due to a crazy strength program and then a challenge to hit 1M lb. of volume in 45 days. Both had me eating everything in sight.

Side note, is there a 2021 aesthetics thread?

Can see the difference after the one week. Noticeable on your ribs.
Good job OP.

Make sure you have a diet/calorie amount thats sustainable though.

It's not, but that's why I'll only do like 3-4 weeks of this before some maintenance time and then a more sustainable diet.

Feels good to shed like 15-20 lb. in 3 weeks before actually going on a diet, thought.

They definitely suffer. Lyle mcDonald recommends going to 2-3 days per week, doing full body workouts, and drinking something with carbs during the workout. It helps a good deal.

Good work.

I love and hate PSMF. We have similar physiques, though my weight gain of the last part of 2020 was due to me being a lazy POS. Fixing that now.

yeah idk. it's kind of not worth it to me cause i enjoy the gym so much. i did try another extreme diet but it was experimental. I did a full day fast twice a week on rest days and got shredded so fast. other days I just ate around maintenance. was interesting, but those full day fasts are insane, felt like a demon when sleeping.

I'm eating 950 calories a day, with a maintenance of >2,800. That's a 12,950 calorie deficit in a week.

Even with an adaptive metabolic response to the lowered intake, I'm pretty confident I was at a deficit between 10,500 and 12,000 calories. Which is 3-4 lb. of fat.

Interesting, it's almost like a recomp version of IF. Except the fasting window is a full 24 hours lol.

I bet the urge to binge after a fasting day was massive.

It doesn't exactly work out like that. Your body does weird tricks like slows down food moving through your colon, reduces fidgeting, etc to bring your BMR down. My guess is you probably lost about 1.5 lbs of fat. You could probably make a crude estimate if you have a scale that measures bodyfat %. Either way, it's good work.

I've been doing PSMF for just over a week and down 8 pounds, and i even fukked up and cheated/relapsed for 2 days.

600 calories is hard as fukk, after consuming probably 3000 daily. I seem to be adapting now, and chicken broth is helping dramatically with the gym. Sodium is your friend with low carbs/calories, my strength is still the same and I haven't noticed a difference in stamina.

Be careful of linoleic acid. If you hit a weight loss wall it's something to remember.

That was the only struggle lol. It was interestingly very effective. I think it's because the body goes into complete survival mode at night or something and eats away at fat, with that full 24 hour fast. I have no idea.

Keto was far worse in my opinion though. I could never do keto, too many good foods with carbs.

I'll take Lyle's opinion over yours, sorry. He estimates you lose about 0.5 lb. of fat per day on this diet. That's 3-4 lb. of fat. I've also done this a few times now, and can confirm that the weight loss is about what Lyle says.

I have less energy, but not by much. I am noticeably colder though, one of my least favorite things about this diet.

I choose this because it's fast, basically. It's a good way to kick start more long term diets. I'd rather do a 3 week fast and then a more conventional diet 2-3 months, than have to conventionally diet for 6-8 months straight to lose the same amount of weight.

Groce, but yes it will work incredibly well for you. You won't even need to do refeeds, and will be in a composition category that allows you to do this diet in perpetuity, until you are about 25% bf.

Fukking hell, 600 calories a day? You must be small, no offence. I'm only 5'9 185 and I eat 50% more than you.

I've found that I burn hella weight during nighttime as well. I like to weigh in before bed, and obviously after peeing in the morning. Last night I lost 3.2 lb. (including the water weight I peed out).
