In a lot of sci-fi books they paint of picture of virtual reality. With a computer strapped to your brain, you can experience everything you've ever dreamed of - a paradise inside your skull. But once cheap VR becomes available to the masses, most people reject real life in favor of a far more pleasurable virtual one. Society inevitably collapses.

I think that in 2021 we are approaching this point.

- The average American spends 5.4 hours per day on their smart phone.
- Some of the most profitable companies in the world are the ones who have figured out how to addict vast swathes of people to their devices.
- Improved graphics and inventions such as the Oculus Rift make video games so immersive that people sometimes forget they are in a game.
- Many Silicon Valley workers, seeing the harms of tech firsthand, are choosing to raise their children tech-free.
- Many people treat the internet as a substitute for real life - pr0n instead of girls and ******** instead of friends
- You cannot escape electronics today. You see them, you hear them. They vibrate to give you a dopamine rush. They are in your pocket, your car, at your desk at work, in your bedroom while you sleep. You give them to your child to pacify them.

I think in the next 10-20 years this will become an absolutely enormous problem for countries around the world. The most successful countries will be the ones that regulate software usage heavily, and do not allow their population to spend their entire waking lives staring at a screen.
