When did the fitness industry start going downhill?

Gymshark promotes fat people, greg "the homo" doucette is the king of youtube, the gyms are full of skinny kids trying to copy david laid, when did this madness start and how can we put a stop to it?
"Like I said ... you have the lower body, and you have no upper body, you got a problem, you got a problem building ... wait a minute. You have the upper body, and you have no legs, you have the upper body you have no legs, you got a problem building your legs. You have an upper ... you have the you have the lower body and you don't have the upper body, the upper body, it's easier to build."

Honestly, it actually was around 2012. It's when the HodgeTwins & other "fitness Youtubers" (cringe), Kinocuck plus other Fitness "Instagram Influencers" started profiting, and that stupid fuking paleo diet became all the rage.

Sometime around 2012, people realized: Why lift weights when it's all about the face?

When men started realizing lifting doesn't get you pussy. This happened around 2015 with the rise of social media to its current state.

People used to stay the same thing when Zyzz was around. Honestly the industry is and will always be complete garbage. Bunch of fake nattys trying to sell you their program and supplements.

it's always been filled with snake-oil salesmen and other assorted bullchitters. however there was a golden period maybe like 2010/11-2014 where there was a TON of amazing, honest, and helpful content being put out on youtube by people who were actually strong and not just trying to sell you stuff. after social medias popularity went stratospheric things went back to normal and the grifters piled in

In the sense that people don't give a fuk about being in shape? Or in the sense that everyone and their mom thinks they are a personal trainer just because they got a couple lulu lemon items?

This. How a young 24 year old so revolutionized the industry and lifting is incredible. God took him from us and the industry went with him.

Dunno if that is correct tbh one bit - GS to me promote Alpha-ism/ism's of the Industry and dragged the Fitness Industry further into the 2000s!

Been in it since the late 90's and even then it was MuscleTech selling garbage like CellTech and Bill Phillips selling supplements.

It relied on sales then and it relies on sales now. Everyone looking to make a quick buck. Especially trainers who can't make enough money from training actual clients who have to sell everything under the sun just to make rent.

Lol you guys think it’s recent, I have old magazines from the 80s and 70s where they were selling mail in training programs and supplements guaranteed to make you look like Arnold, paying monthly subscription fees for Arnold’s or other bodybuilders training programs and of course 1 million different necessary supps. Like every other page is an advertisement.

It’s always been this way, just the medium changed

I'm not sure when but it was around 2010. Before then gyms were filled with ex athletes trying to get back in shape or current athletes trying to get better with the occasional cardio bunny. Also everyone in the gym were doing the same lifts they learned playing high school football. Powercleans everywhere lol. I haven't seen anyone besides myself doing those in at least 5 years. Now its mostly skinny kids on the Zyzz plan except they forgot the secret sauce and don't eat enough.

fitness industry and gym culture was always cringe. bunch of insecure angry *******s in the gym. u can't even ask anyone for a spot or how many sets left without them being angry nowadays lol or likewise nobody asks me how many sets left. they just mean mug bro

the only gym and people i watch that have anything to do with working out is barbell brigade. they've got really good gym culture

follow barbell brigade on youtube for positive fitness/gym culture. they lift seriously and have fun doing it.
