Fell into some extra cash and need a new car

already invest and have a large savings.
own a house and I have been penny pinching for a long time.
have always driven boring vehicles and I really want to have fun driving for my next vehicle.
live in Tennessee where I don't need 4x4.
no kids.

looking at something with a hatchback for the extra space/fold seats down.
looking at -

what would you choose?

Not a VW. I had one and the thing is unnecessarily complicated to work on and the plastic rots out after 5-7 years. They are known for electrical problems too.

A guy I work with had a Hyundai Velositer and it was a totally decent car. Would definitely test drive one of those.

Brah, seriously consider the top of line v6 camry. Actually very fun to drive and reliable as a champ. Put on 130 k miles on 1 and it still drove like new. Needed a minivan so sold it, but amazing car.

I don't care about car mogging or style just spartan function and reliability.

I would go with this and it's not even close. MPG, storage, zippy, will go over 400kms easily with just oil changes.

the mazda 3 turbo isnt a hot hatch, it will be a bit more fun than a corolla hatch or something like that but not in the same league as the other ones. savagegeese just did a review on it.


I have the gti but think that next time i will look at the civic SI hatch or the corolla hot hatch they are making if those are around. VW has a nicer quality interior and is more upscale than the japanese but little chit just irks me. if you like working on it like taking plastic panels off, running dash cam wires through the boot grommets then they start leaking, stupid chit like that, no major expensive failures so far but not the same durability of a toyota. Plan to keep it for a while though.

he said he wanted something fun, that is the exact car platform i had previously and move to for something more fun. yeah it cost more but thats the trade off.

just had a rental 2020 camry and thing drives like a boat and the steering is boring like most electric steering. the mazda 6 my mom has, while not a sports car or hot hatch, was a lot more fun in turns and has a lot better steering feel.

bruh there is a market segment for "sporty" utilitarian cars. You guys acting like there are only pillow suspension buick regals or corvette zr1's and nothing inbetween. you cant even drive the high end cars on public roads without constant risk of a wreckless driving charge if you want to have fun with them

I would go with the Type R personally. I love my 2018 Accord, but if it wasn't for needing a family vehicle I would get a Type R.

VW. Everything else on your list feels like a $10,000 car with a decent engine slapped in. a GTI feels like a $50,000, because, it is. they use the same platform for basically everything audi makes. the reliability is FINE. I bought a new 2009 gti and put 155,000 miles on it in 3 years. Some dealers even install apr tunes so you can get an extra 50hp or so and not void your warranty.

Doesn't take much to make 500 horsepower.

Don't listen to these turds saying stay away from German....right now have 2 Audi's and 2 VW's, have literally not had one problem with any of them, only $$ spent has been routine maintenance.

One of them is a Jetta that I have had since 1986 (was my Dad's, he gave it to me in 1990)n has 480,000 km's and still has the original engine, transmission and clutch. All the power locks, power windows, heated seats, trip computer etc still work perfectly. Only thing I have replaced is brakes, suspension, tires and light bulbs.

Had a GTI for 9 years, tuned to 260 hp and 290 ft/lbs...drove the piss out of it and again only thing I ever replaced was brakes, suspension, and tires. Sold it to a kid down the street and he is still driving it (slammed it on new rims). It had 280,000 km's on it when I sold it.

My other VW / Audi's have 300,000 km's between them, again with no issues.

I have owned 2 Honda's and 1 Toyota in my life....all 3 had to have the engines replaced. Never again, VW only for me for trouble free ownership.
