Yes. Lots of hard work and long hours. Being disciplined with money. Etc. But nobody ever gave me anything.

My family helped but it was very minor, they have always had financial struggles for as long as I've been around basically. Largely due to income issues, bad financial decisions, literally losing money lol. They helped me with $1k on my first car when I graduated college (22), and then they helped me with grocery bills every now and then during college. Still had ~$15k student loans, a ~$6k car that was paid off but would later bring me repair bills unfortunately, and almost $0 in the bank, no retirement. Fast forward 3 years with no help at all I've paid off the student loans, got a $10k emergency fund, ~$40k in retirement (post tax), and a paid off newer car that's like $16k-17k if I sold today. Numbers could've been better in 3 years time, but I'm proud of where I'm at. So net worth wise that's like going from -$9k to $66k.

Eh, my dad was an engineer and my mom a preschool teacher and both their parents were broke so they made themselves a nice middle class family for me to grow up in. No big family inheritance or anything. My parents were super stingy though and were all about saving money and teaching good money management skills.

My parents paid for my undergrad tuition which I was only allowed to go to an in-state school for. I then paid for my masters degree while working and living at home. I then moved out after getting my masters and lived really cheaply during my 20s and saved up enough cash to buy a house. I now make 75k, have over 100k in my house equity, and have a nice chunk in my 401k and more in savings.

I give most credit to my parents teaching me good financial skills.

Got nothing from my parents and mom actively stood in my way.

The two things my parents helped me with are my university loans and me staying at home rent-free, saving a **** ton on living costs.

But I have 7 figures in investments, a 6 figure car, about to purchase a house, all of which was my own capital and own doing. But of course, having supportive parents is always a massive plus for anyone.

My parents were middle class, but apart from a motorbike (my first vehicle) and a few thousand £s (bailout money as a young irresponsible fgt) I’ve never received any financial ‘leg up’ from my parents.

I’m not STEM or PHD status, but I own my own company and contract myself out offshore in renewable energy.

I live comfortably, have beautiful children and a great woman with her own well established career.

However, it’s far less common to see trust fund brats and spoilt kids over here.
Kids are perhaps left fortunes in their parents wills, but the attitude here is make your place in the world yourself.

For instance, my dads friend used to own a plant hire company (that’s heavy machinery not as in flora you fgts) and he owned a helicopter etc etc.

He had four kids who all worked for him, but not in management positions. All four had to toil in the yards for decades and at one point all four even shared one beat up car.
