As crazy as the world seems today, there have been many times in history that were as bad or even worse.

On the 20th of August 1672, Johan de Witt, the Dutch prime minister that was notably anti-Orangist, and his brother were murdered and eaten by an angry mob. Cornelis de Witt was accused of plotting an assassination against the prince. There was no evidence and after hours of gruesome torture Cornelis was released from prison.

The citizens were outraged and demanded both brothers dead. They formed an armed mob and waited outside the prison until Johan and Cornelis would come out.

Eventually the mob got tired of waiting and made a forced entry. They took the brothers from the prison and killed them on a public square. Both bodies were hung upside down from a post. A butcher cut out the heart of Johan and threw it in his face. Their naked, mutilated bodies were strung up on the nearby public gibbet, while the Orangist mob partook of their roasted livers in a cannibalistic frenzy.

Some organs were eaten raw. someone swallowed Cornelis' eye and said 'I don't care, ill **** it out tomorrow.' Other pieces that were brutally taken from the brothers were sold to bystanders. Some pieces were expensive, some were given away for free. The people that bought the pieces kept them as souvenirs and as prizes to show to their loved ones and relatives.
