He's still on the board. Bezos will be doing the same things hes been doing - advising on the major decisions and strategic initiatives. He wasn't doing much day-to-day for the operations of Amazon anyways, and almost all of Amazon's success in the past few years has been due to the operations of AWS. The new CEO is the the guy who founded AWS in 2003 and led it to where it is today. Bezos just doesn't need to work anymore, it doesn't make sense for him to be CEO when somebody else with more to gain could put in a lot more energy than him. And who else to put in that energy than the person who is responsible for most of AMZN's $1.7T valuation?
