Are humans impossible to satisfy? Have we already passed peak happiness in society?

Our Ancestors living in a quiet village: "I wish I could live in a huge city with all the commodities"
Our grandpas during WW2: "I wish I could have a decent job and a simple living family life"
Young people today: "I wish I could live off grid without depending on a 9 to 5 job, sick and tired of this fake narcissist validation seeker society"

Maybe we had already reached the peak of society during the 80s/90s...

The problem is we cannot define happiness.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit softly.

Yea. We have everything we could ever need/want now, but are unhappy. It's because happiness doesn't come from easy dopamine hits. And that's too available in modern times.

The Industrial Revolution and it's Consequences have been a Disaster for the Human Race.

We're not sufficiently far in our evolution as a species to begin thinking past our base instincts. Our brains are still wired to expect danger and seek out security and certainty at every turn. That's one of the main reasons religion is still a thing and why people believe in those stories, because the alternative is too scary.

200 years ago we were all dying by 40. Life was hard and miserable, and relatively short. Now, we all of a sudden live past 80, our brains deteriorate because we're not supposed to live that long, and we become empty shells. We are just starting to live longer, safer lives as a species, and we will slowly begin using our cortex (hopefully) to its fullest capacity and not be so innately focused on seeking safety anymore.

Evolution is slow. Thousands upon thousands of years need to go by before we're able to get there. We're still base apes dividing ourselves into tribes and quarrelling amongst ourselves. We divide one another by means of psychological, intangible, arbitrary borders (religion, countries, race, etc).

Depends on individual mindset. Some people continue to pursue happiness and will never find it. Others have stopped pursuing it and as a result have found it.

if you approach life in a mindless consumeristic way, and seek validation and fulfillment in things that are outside of your control, then yes, satisfaction will be fleeting if not impossible -- also important to understand that satisfaction (and all feelings) are impermanent and fleeting

I think what this boils down to is that we have innate drives and instincts, but we possess a sufficiently advanced cortex that allows us to curb these innate drives, think critically about certain issues, not succumb to tribalism, and thus achieve some kind of overall meaning and fulfillment with life.

Don't become a slave to your instincts. Question everything.

Dunno. If consumerism is the answer, why are some rich celebs dudes offing themselves?

feel like life peaked in the early 2000's. Looking at some old home movies and pictures from that time and seems like people were happier tbh. Advancements in technology were also extremely new and exciting so every little gadget or gizmo or gaming system that came out was actually pretty significant.

Abuse of technology is really making people miserable.

Now I get it.

I think family is key but on the other hand, so many people screw up their lives just cause they get bored of the simple living family life (cheating, alcohol abuse, etc).
