Yes. It’s a nice city. Downtown is becoming liberal central, but if you live in one of the suburbs (Apex/Cary/Morrisville/Holly Springs/Knightdale/Fuquay-Varina), it’s nice. The state is exploding with growth. It's a major tech hub (Research-Triangle Park "RTP").

Heat and humidity absolutely suck, but you get four full seasons here, which is great. Being 3 hrs. from the beach and 3 hrs. from the mountains is a great perk. There are a lot of parks and a few lakes in the RDU area that are great for trail walking/biking/running.

Morrisville and Cary have been overrun by Indians though. They call Cary “Curry” lol (no racist). Cary is still full of ex-northerners as well (I was one of them).

Good uni’s around so smart population, mountains and beach both reasonably accessible, solid array of seasons.

Yeah. Raleigh/Durham was at a Texas-level of growth from the 90's-late 2000's. It has tailed off, but it still growing at a solid rate.

Yes, lived near there for 3 years. Huge market for tech and is the largest medical research location outside of maybe San Francisco. Tons of jobs, still growing and people are generally friendly. The universities are some of the best even if they are liberal centric. Beach is 2hrs away and the mountains are 2-4 depending on where you go. We may buy a second home there since we loved living there for those few years. Nice craft beer scene there as well. Cons are a state tax, prices are going through the roof especially the better cities like Apex and Morrisville but you can find land, homes cheaper in Fuquay and Clayton.

Ease up on the stereotypes, broski. A buddy of mine is moving here from NY like I did years ago, and is anything but a lefty. I was ultra lib in my early 20s, aka when people are still half retarded. Anyway yes, Raleigh is still growing like mad. 2000-2010 it was the fastest growing city in the US. Since then it's still growing a lot, but less in the city itself, while the formerly tiny suburbs have exploded. There's a big state park right inside Raleigh itself, Umstead Park. A greenway system of trails and paths over 100 miles that connect throughout the city too. Going to be interesting to see over the next decade as the "midtown" area develops even more and a second downtown gets built a mile south of the current downtown. Those and other developments are nuckin futs. Multi Billion dollar projects each.

When I go to Wilmington (beach) I get there in under 2 hours. They're widening highway 40 to make sure that stays the case. While this is just my taste, I wouldn't move to Clayton unless I were 60+ yrs old. Just comes off cheesy to me. Raleigh itself is great. If choosing a suburb, I recommend Apex, Morrisville, or Fuquay. Fuquay has more grit which is I suppose why I like it. Less cookie cutter than Apex or Morrisville, which are super nice. Cary's okay. Still calling it a town though it's getting close to 200,000 population. Never heard of Cary referred as "Curry" before, though damn that's accurate. People always said it stood for Containment Area for Relocated Yankees, which has always been true. You'll find most people are not from here originally. Most of the women I put my cawk in before my wife were not from NC.

Can't speak for during Covid, but before it there were always more jobs than people to take them. One of my brothers came to visit, considering moving here. Far less sociable guy than me. I had a very small party at my house. Before the end of the night he had a better paying job waiting for him if he wanted it.

my girl has family down there and we visit once a year or so. i enjoy it but would not live there due to the weather. i find it miserable from May till September/October. love crisp cool air too much to go somewhere so hot and muggy.

Raleigh and Durham are fun. Durham had a great state park we visited last year. Couple breweries too. Durham also has the Bulls minor league baseball team which is a great stadium to visit. airport is super clean and easy to get in and out of (especially compared to JFK and LGA)

Weve been on the fence about moving to the Carolinas. Were in a good area of PA but its still too liberal. Can you really ever escape it? I am software dev so I can live anywhere. Greenville,sc suburbs look like a good family area? Schools are only thing keeping me here. We have a good anti sjw private catholic school. Not sure how those are down south.

It depends on your expectations. North Carolina is a comfortable cheap place to live with a strong economy. Within a few hours of a lot of things, so locationwise it's very attractive.

I recently met some Brazilians who live in Raleigh, and he said he was looking for an exit. North Carolina is part of the boring slow south where nothing fuking changes or happens. People who are used to any type of excitement seem like they would fuking hate it there. People who are looking for stability probably like it.

Im in nice area of bucks county pa. 1 acre 3000 sq ft home here is 750k.
A nice home in greenville suburbs seems to be about 450 to 550. Im fine with it. My modest 2100 sq ft home is worth nearly 500k. Its insane around here.

But I worry about doing a huge move then it becomes too liberal in a decade like Georgia burbs are becoming.

Brother didn't like Raleigh at all, so he moved to Charlotte and loves it. I live on the west coast of Florida now, Were full, No vacancy.

I drove through it. It was eh. I’d rather live by the coast in a medium sized city like willmington. Beautiful beaches. The Smokey mountains are actually pretty nice but nothing compared to the west.

I would say move to hatteras Island but it’s probably way too quiet and you said you where moving for work.

Charlotte is more a "posh" city (finance heavy), while Raleigh is more of a "hipster" city.
