Somehow both college programs are absolutely filled with no-life nerds.

But in business world, those jobs are filled by mountain climbing hippies and F150-driving Trumpers.

I've often wondered: where do the nerds go? Do they metamorphose like a caterpillar? Do they get promoted out of those jobs right away? Do they never get hired due to being huge nerds? Where do they go?

Lmao so true.

I'm going to go with neither.

Both can provide rewarding careers, but neither is inherently alpha. Very few jobs are alpha on their own. You can be a great engineer of software developer and make a good living at both, but your job alone isn't going to make you alpha.

I think that's just a generational thing. The anime watching liberal nerds are usually the guys in their 20s and 30s.

I work with a lot of older, some very old, programmers. As an example, a few of my coworkers programmed with punch cards when they started, and they're more like regular people. They all watch sports, aren't too political (if they are, they keep it to themselves), they're pretty much your standard office worker types.

One of the better programmers in my department is a guy in his late 40s that looks like Homer Simpson and was a state wrestling champion. He apparently does MMA training now, but you'd never guess it looking at him. He has complete a horseshoe bald spot, and other than being a really big guy, looks really harmless, and honestly kind of goofy, dressed in khakis and a polo shirt. Complete bloatlord, 6'3", no idea how much he weighs, but I'm sure it's a ton.
